#1 What the hell is the President getting involved with this in the first place? Can't they screw it up on their own without his help, or does he think this will get him brownie points with you and ... NOT ME
#2 Isn't Chrysler owned, managed or partnered with Mercedes Benz already ??? And, isn't Ford owned, managed or partnered with Fiat ???
Scary on several levels

Nope, Daimler Benz dropped Chrysler some time back, maybe a year ago?
They knew when to just let the lame duck drown! Should have never bailed 'em out in the eighties, it got us nothing but poorly constructed, rather unattractive automobiles for twenty + years.....and I still see nothing to change my mind on that front!
.02 and just a skinch....

Maybe he could make ME a good deal on a new car.

They say he a hell of a salesman. Look at how many people bought what he said before the election.

Well guys and gals, I worked for Chrysler over the past 13 years. I left last Friday. I must say that it has been rather tiresome going into work over the last few months not knowing if you had a job or not. It has been embarrassing watching the company go down the tubes ever since the merge with Daimler Benz. We made a profit till the DB took over. Daimler decided to do away with the Neon, a fuel efficient car, and we headed right into the gas price hikes. Daimler wanted access to our engineering and money. Daimler was in awe how we could make more vehicles with less people. They redirected Chrysler's cashflow into Aerobus and Freightliner. When Daimler split they took alot of our engineers with them. There were't any new products to go on.
Cerberus bought in and stated they wanted to make us a proud American Company again and promised not to leave us behind. That did not last too long. Then they put in the guy who screwed over Home Depot and does not have automotive experience, Nardelli. Kind of crazy how one of the richest companies, Cerberus, all of the sudden needed a Government bailout. Especially when you have a bunch of high ranking Republicans who are on the Board, ie. Jon Snow, Former Treasurey Secretary and Dan Quayle, ex-VP. Read a moment ago how during this bankruptcy for Chrysler some of the monies are going to be transfered to GMAC. Guess who owns most of GMAC? Cerberus.
With the name Cerberus, "the 3 headed dog that guards the gate to Hades to prevent anyone returning after crossing the River of Styx in Greek Mythology" (Wikipedia), makes you wonder what else they have in mind for us in the future. Especially since they bought up Remington, DPMS and Bushmaster, et al.
It is a damn shame that Chrysler was ever sold to the Daimler/Germans. Bob Eaton sold us out and walked away with millions. My co-workers and I have watched the decline ever since.
This is my 2 cents from a guy who is part of the story in the Decline of the American Auto Worker...

When I was younger FIAT meant "Fix it again Tony"....They don;t make anything bigger than golf carts.

Here's what happened to most of them when parts to fix them became "unavailable".
Daimler did the right thing,,,, I can;t wait for the new "K car" (FIAT will make it a convertible.) ::)
And the unions will make it 52,000 dollars.

Itailian car makers either make the most expensive cars on the planet that don't run well or the cheapest cars on the planet that don't run well. There is no in between! I feel for the employees, I do! But I saw the writing on the wall in 1980 and got the heck out of the industry, thank God I did.
I've recently had some experience with some of the fabrication products coming out of Italy in the form of a high power laser cutting systems. I have extensive experience with at least four other manufacturers of similar systems and the Italian version is a very large, very expensive, brightly colored TURD! I expect nothing different from Fiat.....
Sorry, gotta say it again, let the dead dog lie......It's done, let it go...no amount of my money is worth that third strke!!!

Not to defend the Union, but they do not set the price of vehicles. Chrysler does. Over 17% of the cost of the vehicle pays for advertising. Only 3% of a vehicle sold goes to union wages. The rest goes back into the company.

Don't forget the costs added on due to Govt "Regulations".
