I've been after a nice Springfield M-1A for a while, and this past week the shop near me had gotten this one in so I grabbed it. They only produced 500 total. They also had a matching serial numbered Stainless 1911, and while I have a Colt Gold Cup, I'm not too much into 1911's. I'll have to pick up a couple of 20 round mags for it. Really a unique rifle. Want me to beta test it for you?

A Beta C mag for a M-1A, that would be unique! ;D Bill T.

Gorgeous rifle Billt.

Just a question.. Is that something that you will shoot? I think if I had it I would have a hard time doing that. I know that there are people that do shoot the comm guns but I just don't know if I could do it, but maybe that is my toy collecter part of me talking? (Not action figures for those that are wondering.. Mostly farm and construction diecast models)
Again.. Just a question.. and not only towards you billt.. anyone who has a "numbered" gun like this?

To be perfectly honest, I doubt it. Funny thing is that I have 2 other NRA commemorative guns that over the years I have fired. One is a Colt Gold Cup Series 70 that I bought new in the box in 1974. It was a NRA First 100 Years Of Service 1874-1974 Model. I was young and didn't know the collector value, and to be honest at the time I didn't care. The gun is still as spotless as it came from the box, but as I said, has been fired. The other I purchased just recently. It is the Ruger NRA Edition Mini 14 Model. I just ran about 40 rounds through it to check functioning and sight in the scope. This Springfield I'll more than likely just hang on to. Perhaps in time if another M-1A turns up, I may grab it. That way I won't feel guilty about firing it. That is always the problem when you buy a really nice, out of the ordinary piece. Bill T.

Agreed! It is a very nice piece! I would love to have it.... someday... I just ordered myself an M1A as a shooter... Black stock and stainless barrel. Should last me the rest of my life. I'll make sure that the pics are posted to the thread that I started the other day about it. I have often wondered about some of these "Special Eddition" guns. WWII comm. M1's and 1911's.. most recently a guy I used to work with purchased a Para 1911 that was for his tour in Iraq. He said he was going to shoot it but again.. I don't know if I could. I know others with the thoughts that it was made to shoot. I know some people with some anniversary ed. Weatherby's that they shoot on limited basis..(kick and price of .257 Weatherby.. almost the same thing.)
Eitherway.. Not mine and you can do whatever you want with it.. I was just curious?

Nice rifle Bill

I would use it for what it was designed. Putting bullets in the x ring. ;D
That is one fine weapon that deserves to be on the firing line.
If the metal had been finely etched I might put it a little deeper in the gun safe but I would still shoot it.
Of course if I had a civil war cannon I would shoot it too. ;D

Exactly! What's the point of owning it otherwise, unless you bought it as an investment? I mean, in the safe its just taking up space and something to oil twice a year. If you want to hang it on the wall you can buy a replica for a hundred bucks. I don't even want to know what you paid for it, but you might as well get your money's worth and enjoy it. It should give you many hours of fun at the range.

I'm sure I'll be putting something downrange with it. You can only look at a rifle like that for just so long. Bill T.
