Title: Question for those who shoot an M&P
Post by: cody6.0 on May 04, 2009, 08:54:24 AM
Got a quick question for thoes of you who shoot the M&P especially in 40S&W.

I have roughly 200 rounds through mine and have noticed something about the ejected brass. There is a normal dimple from the striker then a small drag mark underneath like the striker was still out when the case was ejected.

Is this normal or should I say common?

I have never noticed anything like that on 9mm.

My M&P 40 has the same marks as well. Mine probably has only 500 rounds through it. It would have more if I could find any reloading components!

Thanks for the responses guys.

Just for kicks I looked at my Glock 21 and 22 cases and it does almost the same thing.

I'm going to forward this thread to a friend of mine.  He had an original M&P 40 that he sent back after 5000 rounds and S&W have actually spoken with him about some "Issues" with the guns.  I think he is on his 3rd M&P now.  He's trying to wear them out.

I have never noticed anything in my full size .40 M+P, 1 year old.

I am shooting this weekend and will take a closer look.

Jason, MY M&P 40 has always had that mark. The hotter the load the more pronounced it is. This is speaking from firing over 35,000 rounds through M&P 40s. (Another note:) I dry fire only after complete dis asembly to check function, have never broken a striker. On the forums I find those that dry fire a lot have broken strikers.  Steve

This is the info from my M&P Guru

This is the info from my M&P Guru

Dry firing with snap caps is totally different than an occasional dry fire to check function.

Did the "guru" think this is an issue or not...doesn't seem to be.

IMHO, I don't think it is.

I don't think so.. I know that he had an issue with one of his M&P's with the striker safety block.  Something happened and it quit working and luckily he noticed this before it hurt himself or others.  Brought it to the attention of S&W and they corrected the problem.  I can ask otherwise the link to the M&P forum I'm sure would answer any questions for you.. He is a regular poster on  there.. I'm actually surprised after I sent the thread to him he hasn't joined this one.. He is actually the one that got me watching shooting Wednesdays on T.O.C.  I just never really had a reason to go to the website until this year I was bored at work so that is when I found the forum.. Joined in on the fun.  Anyway.. Let me know.. I can ask him anything for anyone on M&P's

This guy's avatar isn't a picture of Donald Trump is it? I have lurked around the M+P forum. It is a great resource for a great pistol.

I have not had to do anything to mine except routine cleanings.  I'll bring a variety of rounds to the range and post pics of the fired brass. I honestly never paid attention, but I'll take a look,. Could just be the extractor design.

Thanks for the heads up.

twyacht... LOL.. I highly doubt that his avatar is Donald Trump.  Just not this guys cup of tea ( or cold coffee for him )  and I don't know if it says locations on there ( never been to the M&P forum ) but he would be from Iowa if it says and if he has it visible

Just checked out that M&P Forum. Looked at the Smith and Wesson M&P 9c holster called "Summer Comfort" by Galco. I will be making a purchase tomorrow. Very nice looking holster.
They did have a question about Serpa Blackhawk Holsters for the M&P Compacts and I use one for my compact that is made for a regular frame M&P and do not have any problems with it.
