Post by: callithump on May 05, 2009, 11:33:31 PM
I picked up an AK and am rooting around for ammo. How can I spot corrosive primers or ammo?

well, if it was made pre 70s and its surplus commie block, its 100% corssive.  after the 70s, its anyones guess.  there is no hard and fast rules.

ouch, OK - some of the stuff offered by a friend is older sealed Chinese. I'll keep looking.

Take whatever you can get, just clean after use. After all, that's the ammo it was DESIGNED for.

I agree with Tom as lonk as you clean after shooting there should not be a problem. Also the AK should have a chrome lined bore to help prevent corrosion as well.

Clean with soapy water or even better windex, Hoppe's will not do it. (don't ask me about the chem reactions, I just read and try my self).

"Take whatever you can get,"

Good advice, and I appreciate the cleaning tips.
