Title: Glock 26 .40 cal conversion????
Post by: fightingquaker13 on May 07, 2009, 04:54:36 AM
I finally got my Glock 26  (snake skin duracoat free) and I love it. However I decided to get a mag extension and extended finger grip for one of the mags. While I was at the gun shop the dealer mentioned that I could convert it to a .40 by getting another barrel and recoil spring. Given that this guy is known to have a rather casual relationship with the truth, common sense and reality in general, I am asking y'all if this is possible and or a good idea. As I've posted before, I'm not .40's number one fan, but having the option seems neat, in case I ever change my mind.
Thanks

What caliber is the Glock 26 in, and, not to be rude, why would you want a .40 over what you got now?  Are you going to have to buy new mags?  And I don't think I've seen alot of conversions that don't require a new slide.  And with some of the Sigs I've used the conversions work, but I haven't had any extended use with them.

All good points Texas. Its a 9mm, and no I don't really want to convert it. I just thought the ability to do so was interesting. I also was under the impression that most conversions would require a new slide. This is just more a theoretical excersize in the versatility of the glock frame, as according to Bubba at the gun shop (whose opinions I clearly hold in high regard) it can be done with a factory barrel and a factory spring. Who knows though, I might some day come to Jesus on the .40 thing.

The way I understand it, the only conversion that can be done with just a barrel change is from .40 to .357 Sig......... I really doubt that you can use the .40 barrel in the 9mm simply because of the added pressures -- Kaboom!

GlockFaq.com actually says that the .40 barrel wont fit the 26:

That was my thought, and the reason I don't trust those idiots to do anything more than sell me ammo.
Thanks for the link.

You can put a 9mm barrel in your md. 27 but not the other way around. You can do the same thing in a new XDM 40.

The exit hole in the 9mm slide is smaller than the one on the .40 slides, so a .40 won't fit, the .40 to 9mm works but with aftermarket barrels as the factory 9mm barrels are too skinny for the .40 slide exit hole. The .40 slide and barrel require the 2 retaining pin frame as well.

You would have to change the slide and barrel to convert it to .40 and your mags would not work. 40 to .357 sig only a barrel is needed.
