A Croatian bakery, after having a gutful of consistent break ins, has enlisted the help of one of the world’s toughest men, Chuck Norris, to protect the store from further burglaries.

The Prerada bakery had experienced burglaries on an almost bi-weekly basis, and installed a life-size cut-out of the famous American tough guy in its window, with the warning that the store is “under the protection of Chuck Norris”.

And while the plan sounds almost ridiculous, for this bakery, it’s done the trick.

“To be honest we just started it as a joke but it really has worked. Thieves haven't been anywhere near us for ages. People seem to respect him,” said sales assistant Mirna Kovac.

"Everyone around here has seen his films and he's quite a popular character, perhaps even among criminals, so they've decided to leave us alone."

"We have had a few customers come in and ask us whether they can get Chuck's autograph.

“They really believe he is sitting in our storeroom out the back ready to pounce on any burglars."

Entertainment Editors note: We can also reveal that fellow action heroes Steven Segal, Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme have also offered to protect bakeries – but given their lack of work lately, will simply just sit in the store.
