NEWTOWN, Conn. – The upward trend in firearms sales continued in April, marking the sixth consecutive month of significant increases.
Data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) reported 1,225,980 checks in April 2009. This figure is a 30.3 percent increase from the 940,961 reported in April 2008.
FBI background checks are required under federal law for all individuals purchasing either new or used firearms from federally licensed retailers. The checks serve as a gauge of actual sales but do not reflect the actual number of firearms sold, since, following a background check, a customer may decide not to purchase a firearm or may purchase more than one firearm.
The April increase follows a 29.2 percent gain in March and rises of 23 percent in February, 28 percent in January, 24 percent in December and 42 percent in November when a record 1,529,635 background checks were performed.
The increase in NICS checks coincides with a rise in excise taxes reported by firearms manufacturers, another indicator of firearm sales.

Wow! Just think all the Pittman-Robinson taxes collected. Wildlife conservation is the big winner here, unless His Eminence decides to pilfer the money like Slick Willie tried to. We must be ever vigilant >:(

thats still only one per 300 people...

Would you open a business based on that number? In our community that would be seven guns for those in city limits or about 11 including the rural area. Our local car dealership is moving about 12 cars a week, plus their parts department and shop are busier than most gunshops would be. And, our two local relators are selling an average of 1 - 1.5 houses per week each.
Puts a whole new perspective on the "wild gun sales" being reported.
-
Also, I wonder how many of those people are NEW gun owners and how many already own and are just able to buy another one. The lucky buggers. :D

By the way ...
Has any one noticed gallons of blood running in the streets because of all these handguns and "assault weapons" hitting the street since the election?
ME EITHER !!!

Tom,
Like the mossberg. Did it come with the swivels and short like that or was it cut down? Was it new? I don't think I've seen a short Mossberg like that with a wood stock before.
-
Yea, I too became a statistic in April with the aquisition of my "Summer Carry" Ruger .357 Mag....
Might look to another scattergun too.......
-
Ordered my Springfield M1A ;D ;D

Sadly, I too am a contributor to this April trend. I picked up 2 during the last month and I fear I may end up with 2 or maybe even more this month. I hate to be a burden on all those anti's out there trying to keep record. It must be a real headache to have to add all those numbers together. Those poor, poor record keepers. ;D
HAHAHA, I say we try to make it even more this month. Let's set a goal to break 1.5 million. It's already half way through the month of May so, if you haven't thrown money at your gun dealer, get out there... Remember - Only YOU can cause Liberals a conniption.

Used, came with factory 18.5 inch barrel, I had to add the sling swivels, also included a top folding pistolgrip stock but since it covered the safety I decided not to use it.
Next, and probably last thing is to replace the brass bead with a fiber optic.

I, too, am a statistic. 8)

Sadly
???
hell, I wish I was one of these statistics! every day I think of a gun I would like. though I do plan on buying a gun this month it won't count as a stat in the US. oh well. just means I have to get another when I get to the states. ;D

I am happy to go on record as stating that I am a part of the problem. I did my part earlier in the year to really raise the bar to make this record tougher to achieve, and I was going to lay low and save for a nice M1, and a rifle and shotgun for cowboy games ... but ... sidetracked ;D A local big box gunshop bought a collection and put over a hundred guns on the market at really good deals. I ended up with a couple that I had been looking at for less than I had seen anywhere before ;D
I've been called a trouble maker before, and I'm proud to be one today!
-
Yep, I'm one of them. And I'll be on the June list as well.
-
Whatever month that they approve the Colt Rail Gun in CA will be the month that I'm a statistic. Handled one at NRA Phoenix and I'm smitten. Oh, and the reintroduced Delta Elite.
Just noticed that they put up a new site after years of seeming to have left the civilian market.

well you can put me down for this month
however I put the paperwork in April ::)

Maybe a lot of folks including myself see firearms as valuable replacements for our IRAs that took a massive dump. That and large capacity mags and bullets, powder, primers, brass and tinfoil. Since our govt is so bent on devaluing our currency, maybe "bartering"will be the new basis of wealth. Just my opinion, I hope I'm wrong.

My wife picked up her CCW in April. A Beretta Px4 sub-compact in 9mm. She did good.
