I saw the original Star Wars in 1978 at a little drive-in in Arcata, CA.  We drove a 68 Lincoln Continental and dressed up our keg of beer in a hat and coat and paid the 50 cents to get the keg admitted into the movie!

A good time was had by all!  The keg however, never saw the light of the next morning! ;D

Give me a break.  Capt. Kirk (Shattner) couldn't carry the jock strap of young Skywalker!  Need I even mention, Han Solo and everyone's favorite wookie?   8)   Yes, although it has been a long, long time, I am a Star Wars nerd.   :-[

Oh, and I agree wholeheartedly, the prequal SUCKS!

Star wars may have been the better movie but Capt. Kirk got laid more than Luke Skywalker ever dreamed of.  ;D

Also, it didn't help that he was trying to nail his sister. :o ................................Capt Kirk would've pulled it off. ;D

I can't dispute that.  Maybe Luke was just smart enough to avoid the blue/green poontang, though.  Kirk probably picked up some space funk, that not even Ajax could wash off.   ;D

A Star Wars quote we will all be hearing soon, probably at gun point, "You are a member of the rebel alliance and a traitor, take him away!"

We already heard the worst Star wars quote on Jan 20th 2009:
"So this is how Liberty dies, to roaring applause."

Just know this, "if you strike me down now, I'll become more powerful than you could ever imagine."

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid."

There are so many jokes in that one statement, I don't know where to start.

"The Warriors". Oh, wrong movie and tv show. Have a collection of 1974 Megoland First Series Star Trek Figures. Loved Star Trek but when I saw Star Wars, game over.  Wish I still had all my Star Wars figures. They fetch a pretty penny on Ebay. My brother found the Darth Vader Figurine Holder filled with figures and all their weapons at a rummage sale a few years back. He got a chunk of change selling them.

I had bought doubles of the early ones, was kept a set in the original packaging in a box on a shelf in the closet.

I came home from work one day to find the entire stored set of figures opened, on the floor - including the packaging (he still never cleans up after himself)  - and being played with by my young son.

He is lucky to still be breathing air . . .   >:(

Star Wars hands down.

I loved watching Star Trek, but it is/was the most liberal utopian groupthink backstory.  Star Wars has a much more conservative ideology.

My kids started watching "Clone Wars" on Cartoon network--cheesy computer animation serials that fill in the pieces of the timeline in the [sucky] prequels.  I was EXTREMELY shocked at how pro-right the storylines are--even to the point of teaching MORALS.  Which means they "will cancel the he!! out of it," to misquote MB.

I just got back from the new Star Trek movie.  Numero Uno.  Beats out all of the other Star Trek movies...and the Star Wars prequels.

Yes, Kirk does better with the ladies then the little Jedi feller...and even Spock seems to score better than Hans Solo...but I digress.

Lucas always did have a good grip on history, especially drawing comparisons with Greek and Roman societies. Now even our own has reached the much anticipated final stage; the point society falls to it's own greed and short sightedness.

In terms of this Star Trek movie, I haven't seen one better and I am a fan of the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises. This was well planned, well told and well casted. The cast so represented their original counterparts like I never thought possible. The guy playing McCoy had me cracking up the whole movie just because he reminded me of the original so well. Otherwise, NOT PREACHY like they had been in years past all action all character all fun!
