I went into a pawnshop in the town I work in and found a S&W 1006. I have only wanted one for 12 or 14 years. They have been out of production for 10 years or so if I am not mistaken and they have become hard to find. The guy made me a deal I couldn't refuse. It was all I could do not to pull out the plastic. I put it on layaway but I can't wait to get it. Now I have to find some more large pistol primers to get some loads ready when I bring my new baby home.

That will take care of any wild hogs you run across! SA/DA also, very nice!

I loved the style and features of those S&W's, I sold my Model 411, regrettably, in .40 that was the same pistol in another caliber.
They were done right and I hope to see some pics and a report when you get it. Gets a 10 out of 10.

P.S. I wish I had that 411 back.

For me the S&W 411 was NOT the original Sigma, which was grip molded for a righty only. The 1006, 4006, 4116, were just a niche of a production line, at that time, that were playing their "A" game.
Daddy to the M+P as far as I'm concerned,....
P.S. Still waiting in my Walther/S&W PPK/S, been 3 weeks.(damn recall), I am going to run her hard when she gets back..... ::)
At least their not messing with the trigger,..

Oh yeah, cool gun Gringo. Guess the 10 mm is trying to make a come back.

The 1006 is a large framed pistol designed to handle the very hot 10mm cartriage which was the predicessor to the much milder 40 S&W.
Here is an article that is very informative about the pistol and the cartriage.

Does the "6" in the model number mean stainless steel?

I try . . . 8)
-
Does the "6" in the model number mean stainless steel?
Yes. As far as I know all the S&W 10mm were stainless.Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
-
Got to love the 10mm but a S&W, ok maybe only a little love.
-
Does the "6" in the model number mean stainless steel?
Yes, third gen S&W autoloaders...
10 = caliber - 0 = frame/action - 6 = frame material
1006 = 10mm, DA, SS Frame.... http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg01-e.htm
