Post by: philw on May 15, 2009, 11:45:35 PM
saw an add for the news tonight     Guns for groceries  "to make the streets safer "
I will record it and throw it up on youtube tonight so you can get angry with me  hehe

I also found this   http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/local&id=6813766

there is a video there is your blood pressure can take watching it,   some very nice guns got handed in

Quote
BRISTOL TWP., Pa. - May 14, 2009 (WPVI) -- 45 guns were traded for giftcards in a 4 hour span.

There were no questions asked as people brought weapons to Bristol's town hall kicking off the township's groceries for guns buyback program that began Thursday morning.

"It keeps some of the guns off the street, rather than being out on the street where people can use them for different crimes," Officer Mark Buzby of the Bristol Township Police said.

People turned in revolvers, automatic and semi-automatic guns, shotguns, even vintage weapons like a WWII era German reuger.

n exchange for the guns, people got Pathmark grocery gift cards, $50 for revolvers, $75 for rifles and shotguns and $100 for automatic weapons.

86-year-old Phil Koons got $150 in grocery cards for two .38 specials he purchased years ago to protect the tire business he retired from in 1999.

"I don't want it to get into the wrong hands, that's the main thing; as long as I know it's in the bucket, I know it's safe," Koons said.

The guns are secured; they'll be traced for crimes and destroyed.

Philadelphia Park provided a $20,000 grant for this program.

Bristol will continue the program every Tuesday and Thursday until the end of year or until the grant runs out.

What a waste!!! Talked to a guy the other day who handles supplies up at near by former Air Force Base. They have 10 crates of old Smith and Wesson Revolvers that they are going to destroy. Too bad the government does not sell them to make some money back!!! Reckon that would make sense.  ;)

We had one of these in Los Angeles last week. They had over 1700 guns turned in with no questions asked. These guns are going to be melted down

Well, I can absolutely guarantee that no one turned in ANY gun that they in any way wanted. On the other hand, I'd bet there were quite a few guns with histories that have been disposed of. The idea that Mayor Villaraigosa other city government officials are allowing potential evidence to be destroyed in the name of making the streets safer is criminal. The Mayor et al should be prosecuted for destruction of evidence.

WEAPONS OF WAR WITH NO OTHER USE?!?!?!?

No one else ever use a grenade launcher to take a deer? That thing is already field dressed and ready for the freezer after a hit with one.

hope you guys and gals done blow a blood vessel

BTW, I think my right index finger is now bleeding... Damn blood vessels blowing up like that.

The stupidity in the media and sheeple will be the absolute death of me. My obit will read: "...died from an aneurysm caused by an overload of moronic media and government control..."  ::)

I think the other way around would be more effective. I'd happily donate a case of canned goods for a rifle, (already have a pistol and shotgun ;D  )

You know Tom, even you can have stroke of genuis now and again. Think about the headline: NRA sponsored gun buy back for groceries. Weapons taken off the street and given to lawful gun owners via raffle to those who participated. We should organize this, preferably in Pelosi's or MaCarthy's district. ;D ;D ;D

I have a bunch of groceries....
and yes I think it is a good idea, but how much is legal, would we need to do it through an FFL?? I think this is something worth trying. and to do it in a very loud and transparent manner, let the world now we're buying the guns, and putting them back in the hands of law abiding CITIZENS, legally.

Looking at that pile I'm wondering how many of those were impulse guns bought by people, first time gun buyers, and bought legally, and now they saw a chance to get out of a "buyer's remorse" situation for $100?

I'm looking at that pile and thinking ... "the cops ran out of money, I think I could scrape together $500 in a couple hours, pick up some gift cards at that store, and get five more guns redistributed... er ... off the streets for them  ;D"

Anyone catch the line that stolen guns will be returned to their owners?  Anyone want to lay odds on much effort being put into that?

I have to say you're not wrong. I inheirted my Greatgrandads beat up Smith .32. It had pitting on the chrome and in the bore and was badly out of time. I had to work they day they had a "buy back" here, but if I didn't I would have taken the $150 Target gift card with a smile, and not just because of the money either. Of course, as has been remarked on before on this very board, I am a very person. ;D

2 things: at least stolen weapons are going home, ehh I'll believe that when I see it, and 2 look at the collections that could be sold at auctions with things like Spingfield 03's Mausers and thats just what I could identify. Not to mention all the 1911's that were on that table.

Ohh another thing... Where the HELL did all the MAC10's and TEC9's come from!!!! Couldn't we be arresting the illegal owners of the illegal weapons that are illegally modified to full auto... NOTE there was a lot of ILLEGAL in that for a reason.

I just dont have a picture of my Garand that would fit.... You know real barrels i.e. over 16" don't fit in small places. However this is my Garands day-to-day personal assistant. The Garand has moved up in the world from crawling through ditches and killing Nazi's to enjoying retirement and letting the "young" carry the load. Sad that one can refer to a piece of plastic wood and steel in a manner as to give personality to them.

They DO have personalities, any one who works with machinery will attest to that !

Isn't it California that has a huge budget deficit?  Now how ever could they make that deficit up?  I know, melt down machines into their basic parts because that is what is most efficient and the best way to spend the confiscated funds of their citizens.
