The Emirates try not to get involved in political squabbles, and avoid the fundamentalism, they have kept their independence by being neutral ground for every one. That being said why the hell would they want Nuke power when they could go with wind, solar and tidal generation for far less money and aggravation ?

How about oil generated? They have it.
Concerns have also been raised about the emirates' history as a transshipment point for sensitive technology moving into Iran. A small but vocal group of lawmakers have said they'll oppose the deal unless the United Arab Emirates takes stronger action to keep Iran from obtaining materials that could help it develop nuclear weapons.
Seems they are not so apolitical here..

To quote Bill Engvall to bho . . .

The UAE, do to its size, has a very limited oil supply. Some projections are it will no longer be recoverable by 2020.
The royal family decided they wanted to be the new Hong Kong several years ago and are actively moving into a business friendly direction. As stated, they do try and play nice with everyone including the Iranians. They do realize the Islamic fundamentalism is their biggest concern. That is one of the reasons they do not like or trust the Saudis very much.
The French navy now has a base in Dubai and I’m sure the French would be glad to sell them reactor technology. Do they need it? I think it maybe a status symbol more than anything but cheap energy is as important to their economy as it is to ours.
The US runs combat air operations out of a USAF/UAE base for missions in Iraq and AFPAK. We also have docking privileges in Dubai.
Yes, some people have trans-shipped US controlled technology from the UAE to other countries. So has Israel, Egypt, Turkey and our friends in NATO. They at least seem to cooperate with us in the investigations.
When I have bumped into Iranians while working there, they have been polite but left very quickly. I asked my client, a UAE officer, if I had done something to upset them.
He told me the Iranians are scared that they will be seen talking to an American and they will thought to agents of the Great Satan.
The carpet markets are a different story. US citizens can buy and import Persian carpets.
Iranians merchants like US dollars!!! They are very friendly and polite folks and markets are safe for anyone from any country.
IMHO the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain have relationships with the US similar to our relationship with Thailand. They like us but they don’t want to be us.

Ratcatcher put it much better than I could. Not surprising since my post is based on the history I've read, while he has actually been there.
2 things he did not mention, 1) due to their size the Emirates HAVE to worry about Iran, it is the largest power in the area, and is right next door, secondly the transshipment issue is more a result of the historic trader mentality, even recently they have proven willing to do business such as banking with any one regardless of the source of the money, this is why the Russian Oligarchs and world wide organized crime syndicates bank so much money there. They don't much care what you do else where as long as you don't cause trouble there.
This was covered in some depth in the book "McMafia" that I have mentioned in other posts.

We can't get nuclear energy in THIS country,...and BHO is "giving" it away to UAE, now that's all fine and dandy, but what is the El Presidente doing about the NIMBY environMENTALists in this country, is BS, and I'm calling it.
No solar panels IN MIDDLE THE DESERT, no wind farms in the hills, or on Martha's Vineyard, coal is going to be regulated to death, no offshore drilling, and after all that, BHO tells me I need a wind up mini car with less horsepower than my mower....
Limbaugh was on this today, and I agree. Where is our NEW nuclear power plant?
Oh, have you noticed gas "conveniently" has been going up and up, just in time for the holiday weekend, and summer.
Thanks BHO, great job! >:(

Twyaht,
He approved an Export license for the sale, not gift, of the reactor. That's a couple billion bucks to a US company.
Gas here is up $.25 cents in the last two weeks. Still $1.50 under last 2008 price.
If there is an Earth First folk in the UAE, he's smart enough to keep it to himself.

Are American Contractors Building it? Engineering it? Designing it?
Kalifornia is "selling" property to raise money too, that's fine, great, fantastic, what else have we got?
The fly in the Vaseline, is the BS BHO used during the campaign to "get the USA away from it's foreign dependence on oil" OK,
now that companies with the technology to move forward on these "alternative energy" plans, the Sierra Club, and others don;t want it!
How about 2 or 3 new refineries, when was the last one built? That would provide jobs short and long term. It's BS, and compared to the deficit spending percentage of GDP (40%) this year, almost 60% in 3.
WWII was 17 to 30% of GDP adjusted for inflation in todays dollars. and that was a "Real World War".
BHO speaks out of both sides of his face, and somewhere in Kenya, a village is missing its idiot. (picked up somewhere, but liked it).
Rant off.

If a US company wasn't designing it and supplying parts, they wouldn't need the export permits
The rest of your rant........I agree!

That's fine, I just was pissed about the need to get the USA off the political BS. Just like both parties and a real Immigration policy.
NOTHING HAPPENS. How's progress on the border wall coming along? Are they at a mile yet?
Instead of having an energy policy that "promotes" ANYTHING, it is regulating and stagnating in red tape. While we pay more for gas to go camping, visit family, take a damn road trip, whatever this weekend.
We can fast track alternative energy to other countries, while we do nothing in our own, for a drop in the bucket of revenue..
I won't see a dime of it, or benefit in anyway. But if it was done here, the benefits would be just that: HERE.
