Title: Flag flown over Indiana's Capitol honoring Grandpa's WWII service
Post by: Dakotaranger on May 23, 2009, 11:02:09 PM
The Flag and what I think is his combat medic badge, ribbons, and Dog tag were given to me for my Birthday (May 1).  I finally was able to get them placed in a flag case

Very cool Dakota,

My family has not seen military service in the last three generations.....not until now...my Son is second year Air Force.

We all owe all that we now have to honorable men like your grandfather.

I'm glad they did this this for your family. One of my ROTC class mates, an upper classman who I dated for about ten minutes, but remained friends with, died during Desert Storm. She was state side and was killed in an accident loading supplies onto a truck. Still, it was in the line of duty. A bunch of us underclassmen who had known her went to her funeral in Maryland. It was with full military honors and it was obvious that her family, particularly her granddad who was a Korean war vet, was touched by the recognition of her service and the amount of uniforms at the graveside, even if we were only cadets.
