Title: faux Winchester
Post by: clayflingythingy on September 28, 2007, 10:18:54 AM
On his blog, back when USRA was shutting down its U.S. operations, Mr Bane made mention of a soon to be announced faux Winchester. I haven't heard any more on this. Any update?

Any new gun with "Winchester" stamped on it is fake as far as I am concerned.  The new John Wayne Model 92 "Winchester" is made in Japan!   They are making a .22 rifle made in Russia with "Winchester" stamped on it.  As far as I am concerned, they can keep all their foreign "Winchesters".

Especially at the outlandish prices they want for 'fakes'.

If you want a faux Winchester w/o the Winchester price you could look at the Pumas by Rossi. They are imported by Legacy Sports I think. They are very nice shooters out of the box. I have a Model 92 in 45LC that I shoot in CAS and it is a great little rifle for under $500.

The 45 I load at about 1400 fps (250 grain) and standard 454 250s launch north of 2100 fps (real THUMPER!)

my dad had one of the old Rossi model 92's in .45 Colt. (WITHOUT that safety switch on the top, the way John Browning intended it.) It was a SWEET Gun! This guy at the gun show had a whole table FULL of them for $199. We walked the rest of the show, and came back, and he had 2 of them left. One large loop one regular. Dad got the regular one. Dad has said a bunch of times how he'd bought about 10 of them and resold them now. I'd like to get me one of those Legacy .454's.
