BHO has announced that Sonia Sotomayor will be his nominee for the Supreme Court. Go to www.heritage.org to read up on Sotomayor's backround. Sotomayor has made some glib comments in the past regarding the "setting of policy" from the bench as opposed to interpreting the Constitution as written.

Of course she did, you didn't expect BHO to nominate someone who actually BELIEVES in our founding documents did you?

Fortunately this is just one socialist POS replacing another socialist POS and will not effect the make up of the court.
Pray for the health of the more Conservative Justices.

This is a quote from the inet story announcing her nomination FWIW...
At her Senate confirmation hearing more than a decade ago, she said, "I don't believe we should bend the Constitution under any circumstance. It says what it says. We should do honor to it."

Are their any attractive people on the left?
Geez.... :P
I know, shallow, but come on! Can't we have one justice that looks like Cindy Crawford or maybe Laura Ingram?

I say we still flex our muscles and make a huge stink on this one. Maybe, just maybe, bho will think twice before his next appointment.
I know, not likely, but hope springs eternal.
PS: Am I the only one who thinks this nomination is both sexist and racist?
-
This pick could be just smoke and mirrors and a litmus test to see what the GOP congressman will let him get away with. His track record of getting it right the first time ain't too good...

Nope!

Agreed, but lets do remember that Clarence Thomas was the most quailfied guy for the job (if you were only looking for black conservatives). This is after all a political appointment, and her appointment won't change the balance on the court.

That's been the problem with these appointments for the last 70 years. They ARE politacal and it is no longer about the Law or the Constitutionality of the Law.
He's already looking to 2012 and this just helps solidify voting blocks...IMO...
Personally, I don't care about her gender, race or politics. I care about her ability to not re-interpret the Constitution.

.
Try the last 232.Its always been about balancing between regions and either paying back political favors or neutralizing an opponent by putting them on the court. The only thing new is the visibility of race and gender, but its still the same game. Despite this, the court has done a pretty good job over the years.

On the bright side, she's got diabetes and it's pretty apparent that she's not the picture of health. Maybe she'll have to step down during a more conservative administration, or maybe that choice will be made for her.

Sorry, didn't mean to be jerk. Its just my uncle and godfather, died of the disease, sans feet since they had to be amputated. His daughter, my goddaughter, suffers from it and has to wear an insulin pump. She's a good kid who teaches children with autism. She'll be lucky if she sees fifty.I just hate the damn disease and get a little touchy about it. Sorry.

I hate it too. My dad has been diabetic since I can remember. The other day he came over with some big red spot in his eye, which he told me was related to his diabetes. He says that it will eventually take his sight. He's had a lot of problems, because of it, but nowadays he really toes the line on his exercise and diet and does as well as possible.
Understanding the severity of the disease is why I know that it will be a threat for any nominee.

You pray for my cousin and I'll pray for your old man. We'll both get people to give to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and hopefully they'll be a cure.
Peace

Yahoo.com news is reporting that this nomination will be "a Republican issue" Meaning the Republicans have more to lose by opposing the nomination/confirmation. Democrats claim that Hispanics will strongly endorse Sotomayor's appointment and that Republicans will not oppose it because of the political backlash. Republicans lost key states in West by not winning the Hispanic vote. As Michael Corleone said, "It's not personal, it's just business." No one should be opposed to her just because she is Hispanic or female. I admire her "life story". However, when her opinions and beliefs clash with our life stories, then she should have to endure the advise and consent procedures that every other judicial nominee goes through. And each and every Senator should vote his conscience and the will of his constituency. Write your Senators, and yes even the ones that don't listen or answer you and let them know your concerns. Too often these important proceedings are just given the "ole rubber stamp" treatment. Somebody needs to ask the tough questions of this nominee and get answers.

I have a 14 year old niece/goddaughter who is on an insulin pump. Darn near lost her when she was about 18 months old. She's a sweet little girl who, up until a couple of years ago, has not known what it's like to not get shots multiple times every day.

I'm glad she's not replacing a ligitimate justice too, but it doesn't bring the court back to were it's supposed to be. Everyone seems to think it won't make a real difference in the make-up of the court, but that's the problem.
The USSC doesn't like to overturn its previous decisions and this court will have at least 20 years with her, plus the future replacement of the older conservatives and the liberals. So you're looking at future undesireable rulings that are not likely to be overturned for a very long time.

Add to the fact that she is known to be loud, rude, and overbearing and she could have more influence that we think.
