NEW YORK —  General Motors Corp. has a tentative agreement to sell its Hummer brand to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. of China, a person briefed on the deal told the Associated Press.

GM announced Tuesday that it has a memorandum of understanding to sell the brand of rugged SUVs, but the company didn't disclose the buyer.

A formal announcement of the buyer's identity was to be made Tuesday afternoon.

Sichuan Tengzhong deals in road construction, plastics, resins and other industrial products, but the person briefed on the deal says Hummer would be its first step into the automotive business. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the details have not been made public.

General Motors has not yet confirmed the identity of the buyer or the price being paid for it's SUV-only division, but said the sale will likely save more than 3,000 U.S. jobs in manufacturing, engineering and at various Hummer dealerships.

"We're not today in a position to be able to identify a buyer. it was part of the agreement," GM Chief Executive Fritz Henderson told CBS's "The Early Show." "We believe the buyer is quite capable of closing."

All the reasons I don't already want a Hummer, this completely takes them of the table.

I'm having a different conversation than you boys. :-\  I can't find anyone that don't want to talk about it.  And we all know there ain't enough snacks and beer in the local Wal-Mart to keep the corner stocked for more than a week. That's why I've called in a contractor to have the wall torn down and have a loading dock put in. ;D  Cheaper to just skip the middle man.

BTW...its enough trouble to keep up with the new innuendo with out having to learn all the OLD ones.

The H1 is the only real Hummer, the rest are Tahoe frames with a Hummer Body.

They can have the H2 & H3.

What else can the Chinese take, have given to them by Government Motors?

Maybe the Chinese can buy Pontiac and re-issue a decent Trans Am. :P

The Prowler got arrested by the police after becoming a "peeping tom".  ;D

Wait a minute,....I resemble that remark. 8)

I think the prowler went the way of the SSR, it came, it caught the attention of a few with a midlife crisis, was overpriced, underpowered, and not marketed properly.

Can I get my Vega back?

I'm still hoping the Chinese take Pontiac as well and make another Trans Am.

It's official - Gummint Motors inked the deal today and Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Corp. is now the sole possessor of the Hummer consumer brand.

As long as you don't say that in prison. ;D Seriously, at thert we're going the Chinese are going to own everying anyway, we might as well get used to it. Quick test. Go to your closet, your kitchen and your tools and compare the number of Chinese vs American made products. If you're like most of us its damned depressing and I try to buy American.
FQ13 who has never owned a foriegn car but the rest of it, good luck
