For reasons I can’t begin to imagine, he has taken umbrage at Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh for suggesting he’s not a Republican.
Frankly, I’m shocked... Shocked Shocked Wink that he continues to insist he is one. I, for one, began doubting it years ago, when, as Secretary of State, he publicly opposed George Bush over the invasion of Iraq. When, in 2008, he timed his endorsement of Barack Obama to do the most damage to John McCain’s campaign, I naturally assumed Mr. Powell had finally gotten around to changing his registration. After all, if you can’t support McCain, who was about as close to being a Democrat as a GOP candidate could be, what Republican could Mr. Powell get behind? Abe Lincoln?
I keep asking myself why, after supporting the most left-wing presidential candidate since Henry Wallace, the man would insist on calling himself a Republican. Frankly, I’m stumped, but, human nature being what it is, it must obviously work to his benefit.
Well, at my age, I need every possible edge I can get. Therefore, I am now announcing that I’m a Democrat.
Understand this:
I am opposed to the bail-outs and to the monstrous debt Obama is running up.
I am opposed to the feds taking over car companies, banks and lending institutions, and determining executive salaries.
I am opposed to Barack Obama’s cavalier attitude towards Iran’s nuclear program;
his kowtowing to Arab princes, ACORN and the UAW;
his activities on behalf of Harry Reid’s re-election campaign;
his endorsement of a paramilitary organization that appears to be patterned on earlier models created by Hitler and Mussolini;
and to his search for a “compassionate” Supreme Court justice.
I am also opposed to his bringing Cuban-style health care to the U.S.;
and I am opposed to the mind-boggling inflation that his profligate spending will inevitably bring to bear on all taxpayers, not just those super rich Americans he kept targeting, Che Guevara fashion, during his campaign.
What’s more, I’m not too crazy about a guy who names the family dog after his own initials. I am curious, though, considering that Bo was a gift from Ted Kennedy, whether he drinks from a toilet bowl or a whiskey bottle.
Finally, at the risk of sounding boastful, I’d like to say that I’m the best kind of Democrat. I’m the kind who votes for Republicans 100%.

He has turned into an educated weenie! :o

Rush Limbaugh spoke to this last week or so, and wanted the country to know that Rush is NO longer the face of the Republican Party, based on ALL the RINO's and moderates even defectors,
That the new face of the GOP is:
Colin Powell.
-
I've been screaming this for years. No one would listen back then. Same as the idiots that voted for BHO and wouldn't listen.
-
Which is why the republicans got their asses kicked in the last election, they insist on "reaching across the aisle" those who actually support that socialist crap voted for BO, the people who actually support REPUBLICAN principles, like lower taxes, smaller Govt. and AMERICAN control of Americas borders, only voted for that Dem wannabe because he wasn't BO. Then of course there are the so called "Libertarians" who, as far as I can tell, want nothing more than to kill babies, smoke weed and have the govt. pay for it all.
-
Powell lost me when, as a 4-star general in the United States Army, he was sickened by the sight of war along the avenue of death as the Iraqis fled Kuwait. Man up, Powell, you may be sickened but you are a freakin General, keep your damn opinions to yourself. The ones about bho too. As far as I'm concerned, you are a lib and a Dem.
-
What's going on with Colin Powell??
I think he finally opened his eyes....and the first thing he saw was his own colon.

One of the basic principles one learns in marketing class is that in order to beat your competition you have to be different than your competition. Case in point, we all know the old Avis tag line, "We try harder." My apologies to any employees of Avis but that is a weak marketing position. It concedes that Hertz is the market leader. Why would Avis want to concede that?
So Powell says republicans should be liberal lites. Why would we want go to the same destination more slowly?
Isn't it better to offer a completely different vision for America?
I know that is what I want from conservatives.
-
" It concedes that Hertz is the market leader."
But it sounds SO much better than "we don't suck THAT bad" or "We're number 2".

There were many republicans, REAL republicans, not RINO's like Powell who stayed home on election day rather than vote for a RINO like McCain. Hell, I had planned to be one of them, until he put Palin on the ticket. I went out on election day and voted for Sarah Palin and the liberal old fart she was running with!

Same here.
Just because a guy is a good Soldier does not mean his political opinions are worth a crap, look at Smedley Butler, It was MacArthur s political comments that gave Truman the rope to hang him, remember Al "I'm in charge here" Haig ?
While many in the military are very good at "office" politics, the ones like Ike who can translate that to the national and international scene are rare.

That is (another) pet peeve of mine.
That statement is taken totally out of context. He said and did nothing wrong.
I remember that very interview. You talk about the lefty MSM blowing something out of all proportion!
-
You don't hear too much from Gen. Tommy Franks, or Gen. Schwarzkopf today.....
That's too bad.

No, actually he was wrong, the VP was still available so he WAS NOT in charge, however it WAS the media that blew it ll out of proportion the same way the treasonous media and congress opposed and ridiculed everything RR did or said in regards to the USSR and Central America.

Ton,
I don't know if you saw or remember the interview.
The press was aking himn 'who is in charge'. He said that the VP was in the air and on the way. That they were in constant contact and that any major decisions would be made by the VP. The press kept asking 'but who is in charge'. He again explained that the VP was. The press persisted 'who is in charge'. Exasperated he finally said' "I have told you that the VP is in charge but if you are asking who is in charge here right now (meaning of the staff in the White house) then I am."
It was manufactured by the press.
-
Powell is a traitor to both the republican party and the country. I can't believe I ever had an ounce of respect for this tool.
He took an oath to defend the constitution and now he fully supports an idiot who is trying to destroy it.

Only had MSM back then.
