Title: New toys
Post by: dj454 on June 06, 2009, 11:39:07 AM
I picked up my S&W 1006 out of layaway yesterday. The S&W 610 I had looked at was gone so I bought a new Ruger sp101 .357. I needed a carry piece anyway and I have wanted a sp101 for a long time. I am taking a CCW class in July. I am heading off to the range to try them out.

Yes the 1006 is 10mm this is one of my grail guns. Out of production since 1993 and every one I have found has been either I was broke or it was gone before I could get the money. I have been trying to get one since 1996. This one is in great shape but a shooter which I wouldn't want it any other way. I have read on several 10mm fan forums and sights that the S&W 10xx series are the strongest 10mm's ever made.

Good looking guns DJ.  Don't know where I've seen that Ruger before?  Oh yea, it's sitting on the table next to my recliner! ;D

I replaced the grip on mine before I left the gun store though.  I think Ruger put it on the gun assuming that nearly everyone is going to replace it.  I temporarily put a Hogue rubber one on it but Haz has me drooling over a cocobolo grip that I'm ordering after I get back from Ohio.

Enjoy them both!  You might actually find .38 spcl ammo to shoot!

The top one is the sp101 at 15 yards hand held with Winchester 110 grain .357 mag.The second one was the 1006 180grain over 10.1 grains blue dot at 25 yards hand held. The third one is the 1006 165 grain over 9.2 grains power pistol also at 25 yards hand held. Damn the S&W can shoot. It was flawless all day and not punishing to shoot I have a new favorite. It was definatly worth the wait. The SP101 was flawless as well and I shot it better than I expected since I havn't shot many revolvers. It feels good in my hands and recoil wasn't bad except for my carry ammo Hornady 125grain XTP's. The Hornady's were hot and you know it's a snubby when you shoot them. I can't wait to get to the range again. I may have to start looking for another S&W 10xx series pistol maybe one of the 4.25 inch barrel versions. I am definatly in love.

There is nothing better than a day at the range with a 10mm.

Nice new toys. I'm a big fan of Ruger revolvers. I have quite a few. I'm particularly fond of my old six shot Security Six 357 snubbie with a 2 3/4 inch barrel. It's a good bit heavier but I still love it, and frequently carry it in a Bianchi shoulder holster. I've had it for almost 30 years. It was my first handgun. I've run countless thousands of rounds through it and it's as good as new. I also love my SP 101, GP 100, Redhawk, 3 screw Blackhawk and 45 Vaquero. I have found all Ruger revolvers to be rugged and reliable. I'd like to pick up a new SP 101 in the Federal 327 Mag. but will have to wait 'till I can find one, find some ammo for it and find a new gun or some nice jewelry to bribe my wife. She is under the misconception that I have enough guns. The 10mm pistol also looks real sweet. That's a serious round. My pistols are mostly Glocks and Walthers, but I'd also like a new XPM in 9mm.......another bribe to the wife.

Enjoy your toys and be safe.

That's a great line... Seems my wife thinks the same way.

I have been looking into grabbing up a SP101 for a little while now. I was leaning more towards the DAO spurless model though. Mainly for the simple reason of less stuff to snag up on while pocket carrying. I haven't made up my mind completely on that just yet.

OH yeah! Welcome to the forums Kid Shelleen. Have fun!
