No matter how many times I see that video it makes me remember the importance of basic firearm safety ...
Keep Your Muzzle Clean and Free of Obstructions!!!

Every time I see that I wonder what the dumb shit left in the barrel. ???

Water in the barrel apparently

A small piece of tape over the barrel before you go out will do wonders at keeping dubree out of it. At the range, I also look down the barrel before I shoot the first round as one time I found a Patch In the barrel. ::) My own stupid mistake. Always look.

Reminds me of a Myth Busters episode where they tried to get a barrel to split like that. They never did get it to go so they called it "busted." They can be such twits sometime.
-
In defence of the Mythbusters, they can only judge a "myth" based on their experiments. They didn't blow a barrel up during the experiments, so based on the evidence they had, they had to call it "busted." I question their methodology, though.
Regardless of what our firearms guru left in the barrel, that is a bad day. You lose a gun, nearly kill yourself, and now have the knowledge that the video your "friend" took of it will soon be on the internet. Forever.

Most likely jabbed his muzzle in the mud while climbing or stumbling. I could have even happened the day or two before, so it was good and dried into the rifling.

Scary video. Man is lucky he was not severely hurt.

The Guns & Ammo torture guys have done some pretty crazy stuff. More often than not they surprise me by how tough and well built many of our firearms are. In a wierd way it's kind of reassuring.
As for that catastrophic rifle failure I'm thinking maybe he left a bore sight in. It had to be a major obstruction.
