Title: Ruger LCR trigger
Post by: dj454 on June 09, 2009, 08:54:45 PM
I got to handle and dry fire my first LCR today. I have got to say the trigger is pretty sweet. If I hadn't already bought the SP101 I might have to get one and I still might. I was really impressed with Ruger's latest revolver. I think they might outsell the LCP with this one especially considering .380 ammo is impossible to get. Good job Ruger.

I played with one at the NRA convention, and must say is much better than a normal Ruger DA trigger, and In my own opinion, better than most J frame Smiths, and I am a S&W guy to the end.

The gun shops close to my home don't have any in stock. One told me he didn't expect to get one for another year. I'm hoping someone at the gun show on the 20th will have one so I can get to handle it.

They need to offer this in the 'new' 32 magnum.

I've actually stared at this gun several times and haven't asked to handle it.  It's nestled among a bunch of .38 to .41 wheelguns and I guess I've been working my way thru the group and will have to give it a try next time.

A friend of mine bought the LCR today. I can't wait to go to the range with him. I feel a little guilty he wanted it and I read how hard they are to get and I urged him to get it before it was gone. Now he has to explain it to his wife.  ::)

And you get to shoot it WITHOUT explaining it to YOUR wife, so whats to be guilty about  ;D

I went to a gun show years ago with a buddy, he in turn brought along two friends that had stopped by to visit while we were on our way out the door to the show.  Long story short....this one friend of his buys a handgun....9mm I think.... My buddy and I didn't buy anything but took his friend out to the shooting range.  He wouldn't shoot it.  Why? we asked.  Said he was going to return it, that he shouldn't have bought it without consulting his wife.

That's cool.  No need to cause a ruckus with the wife.

But it was incredibly hilarious to follow him back to the show....watch him ask for a refund and when the guy asked why his response was. "My wife will be pissed."

The guy almost fell off his chair laughing.  He bought it back for $50 less than he bought it for saying, "Hell, I'll do this all day".

I went into the late, lamented Dewings/ New England Arms, shotgun and flyrod emporium,  a couple of years ago. This guy brings in a very nice Spanish double hammer 20 gauge. The proprietor explains to him (honestly) that while it was made by a high end manufacturor (I want to say Aya, but I forget the name) it was A. Damascus barreled and B. made under a generic stamp. The guy thought he would make a grand or two selling it. He got $100, a low, but fair price. On his way out the door, he stopped by the use flyrod selection and found a lightly used sage with a nice reddigton reel for $500. The last I heard was him talking on his cell explaining to his wife how selling his shotgun "only" cost him $400, plus line, plus backing, plus leaders, plus flys........ ;D ;D ;D

Yesterday I finally got see and handle the LCR. Didn't get to shot it but it, seems to be everything Ruger says it will be. Light and the trigger is smooth. This is the first one I've seen around my neck of the woods.

I haven't even seen one yet, but that's some mighty high praise from a Smith man. I'm more interested than ever.

Thanks M25

Anytime somebody wants to let their hammerless SP101 go just let me know!

Badger....you can take any SP101 and replace the hammer with the spurless.  Most folks can do it themselves though Ruger advises to have it installed.  Their policy is such that if you DO send it in, you won't get the other hammer back.  I've been trying to find a source outside of Ruger with no luck.

Any one who can help?

If Numrich doesn't have it they'll get it.  They ship fast. Parts are original factory or at least as good. I have been very happy with them. I bought some Security Six parts that Ruger didn't even carry anymore. Link below:

Thanks Kid.  I'll try Numrich but the e-gunparts site doesn't differentiate between hammers.  I'll keep checking.. ;)

DOH!  Found the spurless but alas, they don't stock it and advise factory fitting.

Is the SP101 trigger much different than that of the Redhawk I wonder?  I put a spring kit in my Redhawk in a matter of minutes.  I dont think there's a whole lot to most revolver triggers / hammers.  Though Ruger DID put a mechanism in my .44 carbine no gunsmith wants to even talk about much less touch!  I honestly believe it's got more springs and levers than my other twenty something guns all together...

???

I just bought a Wolfe spring kit for my SP101.  I'll post the results when I get them installed.  I'll probably start with just the mainspring and see how it feels.  The stock spring is 14 lbs and the kit comes with one/ea in 9, 10, and 12 with a trigger return spring of 8 lbs.

The guys to ask on Ruger triggers is probably Mr. Bane, the Hazcat or several others on the board.

I did buy an LCR the other day and took it to the range.  Compared to my S and W 642:

1)  The trigger is better out of the box

2)  The LCR shoots "softer" than the 642 - not sure why as it is a lighter gun

3)  The sights are better

The LCR was more picky about ammo as it shot much better with 158 gr than 125 gr.

I got to shoot the LCR and it is sweet. Recoil is no problem even with +p. The LCR is sweet I may have to have one as a companion to my sp101. Some of you were talking about the springs in the sp101. I changed mine and it was easy as pie. The sp101 is so simple to disassemble I love it.

I bought an LCR last week while on vacation. I still haven't gotten to run any rounds thru it yet, but dry firing feels sweet. I'm gonna get out Tuesday or Wednesday and fire a few rounds. I'll let you know how it goes.

I finally got to shoot the LCR this week. I shot my XD-40, and G22 also and got rained out before getting to fire many rounds. I fired from only 25 feet, and was at least able to hit the paper target :-[  I got some inside the circle, but still need practice.  Keep in mind, I'm shooting "Old School"... paper target held to a dirt mound with 6 penny nails. No excuse, I know.
The LCR is going to be a fine CCW for me and I'm very satisfied with the way it handled. I was shooting Winchester (white box) 125 GR. JSP.  The recoil wasn't bad and the grips were easy to manage. I need to get some +P to test it with.

A friend of mine bought one wCrimson Trace grips. I was very impressed with the way it was made. We shot it alongside my Taurus 651. My initial thoughts were that it shot well, trigger felt good and broke sharply. The recoil was similiar to the Taurus w/.357 caliber bullets, we didn't have +P to compare, but I can only assume they would bite a little more. Not as much recoil as I expected with the lighter frame. My final thought is.........................I WANT ONE!!!!

Heck...I don't have one of the darn things! My SP101 trigger from Grant Cunningham is as good as I've seen on a small frame revolvers, but the out-of-the-box triggers on the LCRs I've shot are better.

We're doing a SHOOTING GALLERY on pocket pistols, and the LCR (and LCP) will figure large!

I'll look forward to the pocket pistols show. I'm a fan of pocket carry. My #1 carry option is my Walther PPS 9mm with a Don Hume pocket holster. It fits well in Wranglers or shorts.
