Let me start out with a big IMHO concerning what I am writing. However, I can back up my assertion by citing past behavior.
My concern with Obama-Care (beyond the issue that if you really want to screw something up - make it a government program) is that it will give Obama control of everything in our lives.
But you ask, how does this concern guns?
The last time nationalized healthcare (Hillary-Care) was brought up the liberals discussed what they wanted to do by linking guns and healthcare.
I found this article from 1993 – “The year gun control became a health-care issue,” by Jim Schneider. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3197/is_n12_v38/ai_14914345/
Quoting the article, “On Sept. 28, she (Hillary Clinton) told Rep. Mel Reynolds (D, Ill.), who is sponsoring his own tax-the-guns bill, that she does indeed favor a tax on firearms but that first she would like to see various categories of firearms banned.
Two days later, she reaffirmed her desire to tax firearms under questioning in the Senate.
Then on Oct. 1, USA Today -- which has earned its reputation as one of the nation's leading advocates of gun control -- editorialized that, "It's only natural. It's utterly obvious. Gun control and health reform go hand in hand. Indeed, gun violence is a steady and powerful inflater of health costs.
"In 1985, the total medical costs of gun violence were more than $900 million. Three years later, the costs had risen to $1.2 billion. Low-ball figures for 1990 place the number at $1.4 billion. And costs surely are continuing to rise ...”[/[/i]b]
The Supreme Court may have affirmed the individual right to own guns but the government can price us out of gun ownership. They could increase cost to provide us with health coverage or even refuse to insure gun own owners because of our “risky” behavior. No law needs to pass restricting gun ownership. They just need to play with the actuarial tables.
All the while Maximum Berry and his minions will deny this is their intent. Just like he doesn’t want to run the car companies – but he does. Just like he doesn’t want to tell executives how much they can make – but he does. And the list goes on.
If we allow Obama-Care to pass the ball game is over.

Several years ago a doctor asked my son if there were any guns in the house, among other nosy irrelevant questions, as he was inputting the info into his laptop. The enemy is after us on many fronts.

Best way to figure is any profession that is regulated by an "Association, AMA, ABA, NEA, etc is socialist and hates REAL Americans. You may be wrong once in a while, but mostly you'll be right. AARP is another one.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. They will use nationalized healthcare to control all types of behavior. If you're over weight and are at risk for diabetes...higher premium. Have you ever smoked...higher premium. You don't work out at least 3 days a week...higher premium. You scuba dive...higher premium for risky behavior. Sky diver...higher premium for risky behavior. Eat fast food and have high cholesterol...higher premium for risky behavior. Same goes for hunting, sport shooting, carrying a gun, etc. They will use Obama care to regulate our lives and our activities.

You got that one right.

The AARP, for everything they do are a left leaning org. Okay big deal.... The discount card motivates most of the folks to join, but starting in the 2000 election with "Global Warming, Internet Inventing, Nobel Winning, Al Gore", The AARP had become more of a mainstream lobbying org. for a distinct left-wing agenda. Just like the ACLU, they choose what side of the table the bread is buttered on.
According to Limbaugh, Democrats love "grouping people", we can all run down a list of "groups"... Pro-Life, Pro Choice, Right Wing, Left Wing, Pro 2nd Amend, Anti Gun, upper class, aka evil rich, middle class, etc,.....
Point being, the Feds are going after tobacco now, but the revenue to states and the Fed from smokers is huge....
Sin taxes are always raised in an economic pinch, but what happens when the sin is taken away? Revenue goes away. Than what?
People will go to a black market, grow their own tobacco, etc,.... State revenue will drop like a stone further putting them in a Kalifornia, NY deficit....That will force higher taxes and fees on who?
Cigs in NYC are what $7-8 bucks per pack, NYC is still going broke because folks are going to PA, NJ, to get em.... Revenue is down. Logic is backwards, but that is politicians for you.
Tab,
oh yeah I've been a AARP member since the age of 19 lol
Not surprising at all TAB. ;)
