Title: S&W Model 37 airlight
Post by: haycreek on October 03, 2007, 04:21:24 PM: Uncle Sam provided my first handgun in 1952, the 1911 has been a favorite ever since. Since then, I have tended to not carry any handgun with less than a four inch barrel. An interesting program was on Shooting Gallery recently concerning "snubbies" and Walt Raush. I have aquired a S&W 37 airweight, and find myself carrying the revolver in my pocket, all of my waking hours. Why did it take me SO LONG? At 15 ounces, I have pocket knives and keys that weigh that much!

I too started out with the 1911 and moved to snubbies. Currently a S&W model 342Ti. At just over 13 ounces LOADED whats not to love!

I recommended it to her because she is a new shooter and will be training her in its use soon. I am curious about ammunition recommendations for this type of revolver for her.

For +P ammo, Smith & Wesson says to use jacketed ammo only. For non +P, use anything you like.

For practice try 148gr wadcutters. They should be the softest to shoot. Then try 130gr FMJ. For personal defense try Winchester Slivertip 110gr hollow points. These are not +P.

There are so many choices (as others will recommend). You need to find the load she can shoot two or three rounds quickly.

Post by: marksjackson on October 12, 2007, 01:11:41 PM: See this is why I love my pre-lock S&W 640. It is just a little heavier and it will shoot .357 quite accuratly. Not that I would want to do that all day :D.

Took me a couple of trips to the range and 100 rounds before I really had it dialed in. The trigger action took me a little longer to get down pat than I thought it would but its preforming as I like now. I do enjoy the ability to drop it in the pocket and head out the door. Its not much different than carrying my Keltec P3...well ok a little heavier but more comforting, if that makes sense to anyone but myself.
