Major score today. Bought an NON-customized 70 Series Commander from a local feller.
I won't even tell y'all the price I paid so as not to bring jealousy and hatred my way.
It will remain as-is EXCEPT for a set of nice old ivory stocks I am fixin' to put on it.

SCWINNNGGG!
Nice Colt...enjoy it!

Don't forget the pics after you put the ivory on. You should also post it on 1911auto.org those guys will drool like a St. bernard.

The ivories are on a Pre-70 Colt Commercial 1911 in .38Super. I had forgot I put them on the Super...and I think that is where they will stay. I ordered a new set of elk stag stocks with my intials inlayed into them for the Commander this afternoon. Nothing like elk stag or ivory to make a 1911 pimptastic..... ;D
The Commander also is a shooter. I polished the feed ramp this afternoon, and ran some Remington 230gr jhp's through it...about 100 rounds...without a hitch. Accuracy was "pretty good", which (to me) means it shot to POA at 10yds, and grouped into 3.5" at 25yds. It printed about 3" low at 25yds with 230gr fmj. All in all, it is more than accurate enough with them little bitty sights to make a hand as a carry gun.
No, I WON'T be adding a beavertail, extended slide stop, ambi safety, new sights, or any other such new-fangled play pretties to this nifty little Commander. I WILL do a trigger job and add a long Wilson trigger to it though.
By the way....I gave $450 cash and an OLD RCBS Rock Chucker press with a set of .38/.357 dies for it.
I know, I know....I am going to hell for this one.

Nice one Frisco. I imagine it will look sharp with either ivory or stag on it in one of your holsters.

No more so than some of the rest of us on here.
I won't say what I gave for a Lightweight Commander from a retired LEO, you guys would beat down my door and stone me.
Got the commander, his duty rig with belt, holster, 3 double mag pouches, 7 mags, S&W handcuffs, and more plus 500-600 rounds of ammo. It was a few years back, but it was still an excellent find and price. In todays world with ammo prices being what it is it would be larceny.

Quick Frisco, go get a lottery ticket, your luck and timing is too good to stop now! :o
Great deal!!! Looking forward to the "pimptastic" version.

As long as both parties are satisfied with the transaction, then all's good.
Nice find.

He probably made out much better than he would have from a dealer so you have no need to feel guilty.
One question though, what are your 6 favorite numbers between 1 and 56 ;D
