A teenager recently arrested for marijuana is accused of torturing, mutilating and killing almost 20 cats in South Miami-Dade in less than two months.
At least 33 cats were killed in the area but the rest have not yet been tied to him.
Police say more suspects might be forthcoming.
Tyler Weinman, 18, was charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burlgary.
Police arrested him early Sunday morning at a party in Coral Gables after Circuit Judge Darryl Trawick signed an arrest warrant.
They say he was under surveillance for two weeks - a period of which several cats were killed.
Weinman's Myspace page reveals that he has a girlfriend and that he recently graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High School.
Weinman was arrested on May 29th for marijuana possession, according to court records. It is not clear if this arrest led to the animal cruelty charges.
County records show that his mother, Alba Weinman, and father, Douglas Weinman, lived within two miles of each other in the areas of Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay, which is where the cat killings occurred.
Although police say more suspects may be at large, Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle acted as if Weinman was the only suspect.
"I commend the police officers of the Miami-Dade Police Department and Senior Trial Counsel Michael Von Zamft who worked tirelessly and exhaustively with our law enforcement partners in order to put an end to these acts of cruelty," she said in a press release.
"My heart goes out to the pet owners who have suffered such a great loss."
Details are being added as they come so click back for further updates.

MIAMI – A teenager was arrested early Sunday and accused of committing a string of gruesome cat mutilation deaths that had horrified residents of his Miami area community, authorities said.
For the past month, shocked pet owners in the Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay neighborhoods have reported finding more than two dozen cats killed and mutilated. Some of the dead cats were missing fur and appeared to have been cut with a sharp, straight instrument, police said.
Tyler Weinman, 18, was taken into custody early Sunday at a party, police said. Weinman was charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary.
Police put the home of one of Weinman's parents under surveillance several weeks ago after receiving tips from community members, said Miami-Dade Police Department Maj. Julie Miller.
"This terrible time has drawn us together as a community, further emphasizing the importance of knowing our neighbors, communicating with each other, and always staying vigilant to suspicious activities whenever or wherever they may occur in our village," said Palmetto Bay Mayor Eugene Flinn.
Weinman was being questioned by police Sunday. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney. Messages left at phone numbers for his parents were not immediately returned.
In all, the deaths of more than 30 cats were under investigation, but Miller said some of those cats were likely killed by dogs. She said additional arrests might be forthcoming, but she declined to name other suspects.
"I sincerely hope that with his arrest, the residents will feel relieved and their cats will be safe once again," said State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. "It is expected that the vicious crimes that have plagued these communities will not be repeated."

That is one sick and twisted kid.

What the hell is wrong with some "kids" today? If he is found guilty he faces 5 years per cat. What goes through the mind of a young man that has his whole life ahead of him?
I say this because I have a 14 year old son. He has had cats, dogs, birds, fish, all his life and once saved his cat after it decided to "explore" the area behind the water heater in the corner of our old house.
Our darn cat was head down and butt's up stuck and crying like something from Silence Of The Lambs,. Awful sound. I had to dangle him (my son) from the ankles and stuff him behind the water heater (He was kinda slim back than), to reach the cat, which all he could grab was tail.... ::)
Cat didn't like it one bit, but was damn happy to not be butt's up stuck behind the water heater. Cat recovered just fine....
Either way, he loves animals, but knows how to correct a bad behavior without cruelty. Where does it all go wrong with kids today...

I love animals and no animal should be done this way. But I hope that is all he killed. Forensic psychologists have known for some time that serial killers usually start with hurting animals and progress from there....It is a good thing they caught him when they did.

It isn't just kids today... Unfortunately there have been sick people forever. Just now killing cats is media worthy. Only thing media worthy out of this story should be some DOC putting the needle in his arm or the person throwing the switch to show others not to do this crap

You got that right. One sick, twisted kid and a future serial killer in the making. Let's hope that he gets some help before he gets out. At 5 years per cat that's 75 years, so I guess he'll be out in what, about 5. Most likely he's too far gone and will be a problem to all mankind in the future.
Given that.........Sick 'em Haz !!!
