First 'anti-stab' knife to go on sale in Britain

The first “anti-stab” knife is to go on sale in Britain, designed to work as normal in the kitchen but to be ineffective as a weapon.

The knife has a rounded edge instead of a point and will snag on clothing and skin to make it more difficult to stab someone.

It was invented by industrial designer John Cornock, who was inspired by a documentary in which doctors advocated banning traditional knives.

Mr Cornock, 42, from Swindon, said that the knife will cut vegetables, but will make it almost impossible to stab someone to death and will reduce the risk of accidental injuries.

He said: “It can never be a totally safe knife, but the idea is you can’t inflict a fatal wound. Nobody could just grab one out of the kitchen drawer and kill someone.”

The knife is expected to sell for around £40-50 and has been tested with “very favourable” results by the Home Office’s Design and Technology Alliance - set up to research products that can deter crime.

"Almost impossible to stab someone to death." But just as effective for cutting their throat and killing them anyway.

Now if we could only come up with "anti-gun shot wound" firearms the world would be the warm & fuzzy utopia we all knew it could be....... except, I guess, for that whole pistol whipping thing ;)

They at least make sense as there are times you are cutting with them in tight places, (Thinking "EMT" type scissors)

They have already ruined butter knives, now this?

What's next?? Putting rubber tips on the ends of pointy sticks so people walking in the woods don't just grab one off the ground and kill someone? Maybe everyone needs to be be in straight-jackets all the time. Seems to be everyone is just going batshit crazy and killing each other.

"Nobody could just grab one out of the kitchen drawer and kill someone.” Hell, now I don't what to do with my weekend cooking time. I usually just grab a kitchen knife and go kill people.

Anti-stab knife. WTF is that? That makes as much sense as TAB's spelling.

The sad thing about this is that it really is the terminal stage of a national suicide pact. The Brits have lost all confidence in themselves and their values. They have gone from the WWII generation and the builders of empire to being so overcome with squeamishness and self loathing, over guilt or God knows what, that they don't even demur from this craziness. They want to sand all the rough edges off things and trust the state to ensure their saftey, even though its incapable of doing so. They allow in immigrants from Pakistan who sneer at their values, and are too weak or diffident to insist on assimilation. Is it any wonder they are thinking of legalizing Shariah? Can you imagine how LONDON'S radical madrassas are ROFL over this?
Its what happens when a nation forgets its values. I get into some static here, in part, because I place American values as being more in line with Jeffersonian classical liberalism than Puritan fundamentalism. Others disagree, but what we both agree on, I hope, is that when a nation starts apologizing for what it is, its doomed. Acknowledge fault and make ammends for specific failures, yes. To forsake your tradition for a nanny state that utterly disdains them, F no. It is inconceivable to me that this should come to pass. Except that the evidence is there, Good manners and equal opportunity becomes twisted into PC, history isn't taught, multi-culturalism muddles fact, and soon only pre-cut meat will be allowed (correction, precut veg as only a barbarian would eat "something with a face").  AAAARGH! :'(

Sounds like stabbing knives and a certain list of names is just what they need. ;D

Give me 5 minutes with a grinding wheel and it'll be back in business  ;D
Are they really that stupid ? Oh, I forgot, they are "Your a Peons".

When I was 12 I took an Arkansas stone and three hours to put a point back in a stabber that had a 1/4 inch taken of the top, unless the Brits are really, really slow this sounds totally stupid.  Give this to a prison inmate and they'd have a stabber in 20 minutes.

"When I was 12 I took an Arkansas stone and three hours to put a point back in a stabber that had a 1/4 inch taken of the top,"

Over the years I have reground several blades for the same reason, or, as with my current Buck, I liked everything about the knife EXCEPT the blade profile, so I change it to suit my needs.

In my (not so) humble opinion, we have less to fear from pointy knives than from pointy-headed liberal asshats.

Righto Phil.

I could easily use that "safety" knife to slice, dice and inflict severe deadly harm.

Don't these stupid fu#@ers read ANYTHING ? Remember the "Ice Man" found frozen into a glacier in the Alps ? Research shows that he died in a fight ( http://www.brandoquilici.com/latest_news.asp?IDNews=2 ) he was attacked, not with a metal knife, or a gun, but with a STONE knife, and a bow and arrow composed of wood and stone. Violence <these assholes can not seem to understand, is rooted in human action and motives, not the things they used when motivated TO these actions.

Reminds me of my junior high shop class. As one of the many lurid "safety" posters read: The screw driver; "DAGGERS IN DISGUISE". Kind of like the anti-VD films, they just gave us ideas. ;D
