Title: Anti-Gun Actors
Post by: retiredranger on October 03, 2007, 07:44:21 PM
Actor Mark Wahlberg has a new shoot-em-up movie coming out next week. I don't know if you caught him trashing the NRA and Charlton Heston at an MTV movie awards show, with his pal George Clooney at his side. If you are anti-gun that is fine with me, just don't go around making your living doing movies where all you do is shoot people. If it were not for the NRA, this guy would not even have access to guns for his movies. I also read that he is a convicted felon, so I really don't see how he is allowed to handle firearms. I realize that there are a lot of prop guns in movies, but somewhere along the line he has his hand on a real gun. Shooters should not support a joker like this by watching his movies or buying/renting the DVD. What does the community think?

If we boycotted every anti-gun actor, director, musician, or whoever, we'd rarely ever watch ANY movies or listen to music. Yeah he's an Anti-Gun felon creep, but us not watching his movie isn't gonna change that or hurt him any.

Pro-gun actors would be a lot shorter list.  But, I'm all for boycotting these guys, even if it just makes you feel a little better.  :)

That might be a nice "press release" to get to the networks...how the guys that make milliions killing onscreen (and often employing very poor handgun practice) are actually anti-gun. We need a champion that has access to the media....
Where is JOhn Wayne when you need him?

I sure did not know that.  I just bought the movie "Shooter" and I sure as hell would not have bought it if I had known the idiot was anti-gun.  How in the crap a person could make a movie like that and be against guns is beyond me.

Mark Wahlberg was the topic of a lot of print by NRA and I believe that Mr. Bane hit on it also.  How can anti-gunners cry for more and more laws when they don't even enforce the ones on the books.  To date I have not heard that Mark Wahlberg's status as a convicted felon has changed in a way that would have allowed him to even think about touching those guns he handled and fired to make the movie "Shooter."

I can't obtain a gun without paperwork and background check, but activist actors can make a living illegally using guns we would all love to shoot.

Didn't he also spend some range time with real rifles and Spec Ops?  That would be a big no no for a felon.

I am for the short list of pro-gun actors and directors.  :)  Much easier to maintain.

Hey - It helps to know who they are.  I doubt we will change their minds about gun ownership and use.  They will sure as Hell not change my mind.  There are so many actors working today - many of them are good at it.  Once in a while a high-profile type pops up (one way or the other) and we all say Wow or Shit.  It seems to me we have to maintain our standing and momentum and hope the Supremes are favorable.  These nine judges are so much more important than all the thousands of B/S actors and political poltroons put together that it is kinda scarey.  It helps me when I watch TV, movies, and news to think it is almost all make-believe.  It is always a good idea to keep an eye on the pols - they can do a lot of damage in the dark of night if not stopped.  Actors, musicians, etc. are meant to be distractions.  The things Marines and Soldiers and Sailors are doing for us is the "real deal".  God Bless.  Ron

The issue of Mark using guns as a felon on movies was brought up on another forum and a "Hollywood insider" on the forum mentioned something about the production company needed to have permits signed and Mark had to be near a licensed firearms operator at all times during the shoot, he couldn't handle the weapons at any time other than during filming.

This information is generally correct.  "Actors" get a pass for the sake of their jobs.

I can see it now, the rabid defense lawyer using the Hollywood defense, he only used the gun while on his job, i.e. robbing the bank, he then passed on the gun to his personal firearms operator when he was done.... ;D ;D ;D ;D

You ain't alone Tin Can, seems there are rules for all of us, but some of us get to be more equal than others.

As for dropping the "Markie Mark", I think that is two-fold. One, get rid of a reminder of his criminal past, and two, he wants to be taken as a "Serious Actor".

It's all about ego, otherwise why would we give a rat's ass about people who make a living pretending to be someone they're not, speaking words someone else wrote? Next time you get to be around one of these pretentious twits, ask them why we should care what their opinion is about the weather, let alone things important.
