Went to the range tonight and a fella let me shoot one of these!
Springfield M1903....an OLD one...probably early 20's...I'll ask next time.

100 yards, 3 of 5 hits on a 8" plate with iron sights...too much darn fun. Haven't shot a rifle in some years, probably 20 or more. I impressed even myself..
Also got to plink off some rounds with the SIL's Bushmaster.....yawn! Don't know if I hit anything cause I can't even see the sights on those things.
I like the old stuff mo'better! ;D

Too bad I don't have the screaming R. Lee Ermey picture here. If I did it would start out with something like "Jesus Christ! Do you mean to tell me that even a squid can't do better than 3 out of 5 with the finest infantry weapon ever made? Do you here that noise? That's the sound a German makes when he's laughing at you! Get off my obstacle Pyle! Jesus Christ!" Or words to that effect. (I'm sure Tom can help me here 'cause I'm just Army);D
Seriously though, these are sweet, though damn heavy rifles, and you're lucky to have gotten to shoot one. I am tempted by the Moisin, even though I have no earthly need for one, but if I could find an old Springfield at even close to the price (fat chance and for good reason) I would buy it in a heart beat.

I think 60% shooting is pretty darn good for a blind, limping old Irishman who ain't shot anything but handguns and shotguns for the last twenty years.....It isn't as heavy as you might think though and a real pleasure to shoot. He offered to let me have another go at it but he was there with his son.
He just picked it up a few weeks ago so I felt privilaged to shoot it.

Just kidd'in, I couldn't let the opportunity to take a shot at the Navy pass. But I am with you on the Bushmaster. I looked at one at Gander a coule of days ago, and without my glasses, I couldn't see crap out of the peep sight. It was rather deppressing. (of course thats why theres the twenty round mag) ;D Still that sounds like a great gun.

YES! ;D

The rear sight makes it an 03a3, but before the pistol grip stock, great shooting rifles though, not just good, but great. ;D

Your probably right, I do recall an A3 designation on the top of the receiver. That would put it sometime in the 1940's?
(The pic was as close as I could find on wiki)

And you call yourself a Christian? Even when you are make-believe quoting someone, I find this highly inappropriate. I can let a lot of other peoples' obscenities pass, but not this one or the other one taking the Lord's name in vain.
Sorry, pet peeve, not to mention a huge violation of Scripture. And don't go quoting me any of Patton's sayings either . . . >:(

Peeve noted, however try renting Full Metal Jacket sometime. Its a great movie, and you'll see where the quote comes from. As you said, its a make belive quote gosh darn it.

PS Path, I should have been clearer in the above that the quote is pretty much straight out f the movie. I did not intend to offend, and its not an epithet I am in the habit of using.

Yer preachin' to the choir withme, Tim. Get yer C&R license and you can have the 'old stuff' shipped right to your door! Inexpensive and FUN (not to mention time tested weapons!)

Freezer Bag.....though I didn't bother to disassemble the trigger assembly. Ruger said it's not necessary. Someday, I'll take it apart and put it back together just to say I did. Inquiring minds and all that! :D

Always have loved bolt actions. Elegance, with an element of whoop-ass!
They are 'mo betta....

Don't, you don't have what it takes, or the credentials to use it.

My dad has an old 30-40 Krag that was my great grand dads and it shoots great. The old school still kicks ass. :D
