Title: Monarch Ammunition
Post by: CJS3 on June 16, 2009, 09:50:21 PM
Has anyone used this brand? I put some through one of my SKS's yesterday and found that they wouldn't eject consistantly. It was almost like the extractor claw wasn't grabbing the cartridge rim. I didn't have another brand with me so I couldn't compare. Has anyone had this problem or heard of a similar circumstance with this brand?

I'm guessing you bought it from Academy, its some Eastern Euro surplus that's been rebranded.  I ran eight boxes through my Mini in one day.  It was brass cased FMJ, never had a problem, I think Eric may be on to something could be your rifle.  How many rounds did you fire?  I would find it hard to believe that a few boxes all had the same defect.  Good luck.

I know reloaded .223 Monarch brass is horrible.  It jammed up in two of my shooting buddies AR-15s.  At American Shooting Center the guys behind the counter said that it happens often.  My only experience with it is in .308 and .38 special and everytime I pulled the trigger it went bang and cycled my CETME action and didn't bind-up my cylinder.

It wasn't brass cased, they were steel cased, and they did come from Academy. That SKS has worked just fine with Wolf and chinese surplus in the past. I only fired 30 rounds and yes the extractor was the first thing I checked at cleaning time.
