1978 Colt Python
Found on Gun Broker. Owened by a private collector and never fired. Spot on pic 3 is just glare.
-
You picked her up?
My 'problem' with 'never fired' is if'n it were mine it would not (could not) stay that way and that would lessen the value.
She is a beauty!

Thanks Haz,
Got this Python on Gun Broker about Oct. of 2007. Not shooting is not a problem. I have an exact duplicate shooter. Pythons sure shoot Smoooooooth.

Just to echo what Haz and Peg said.
We do love the porn ;D
-
Wow, very nice pistol. And to own two??? You are living the good life Kid.
-
I once had aspirations of starting a Colt collection for my son. Then I realized how much it would cost, so he's on his own. ;D

Agree 100 percent. I can't own a fine firearm and not shoot it.

Thanks, but don't get too impressed fellas. My Brother-in-Law and I are both gun guys and we will be opening a gun and knife storefront and internet business in the fall of '09. We both already have quite a few guns and have been buying and collecting for a while (Yeah we are both old). Starting a gun business seems like a natural direction for two old retired gun nuts.

Being retired means you don't have to let the cool stuff go ;D

Ya know Kid, seeing as your two years younger than me, I'm getting a little tired of people calling them selves OLD! I'm still about 16 in my head so CUT IT OUT!!!!! I know, the hot sun in the south ages ya quicker but seriously......enough!

I hear ya. I'm still trying to figure what I'll be when I grow up. I still feel like a "Kid" at heart and I hope that I always will.

Best gun deal I ever made was trading an in the box Ruger bearcat to a serious Ruger collector for a 4" barrel used state troopers .357 python (lots of holster wear, but eotherwise cherry). Worst deal was when I panicked at the Clinton gun ban which was intially going to incluse semi-auto handguns, and traded it for a new Glock (in my slender defense Colt was still making them). I love the Glock, but in retrospect, not that much. I love Pythons. Smooth as glass, solid in the hand, I still kick myself over that. The dumbest thing I ever did that didn't involve a girl.

OK, I'll play.
Here's my 1969 4" Python, virtually unfired. I don't think more than 5 rounds were fired through the gun from what I was told and the fact that it is pristine, including the recoil shield and cylinder face. It belonged to a New York State Supreme Court Justice who sold off his collection after he turned 80. Needless to say I jumped on it as soon as I saw it was available. Came with both sets of stocks and original Colt box and papers.
The stocks you see in this photo are brand new old stock from the mid 70's, but I decided to put the original 1969 stocks back on this beauty as the semi circle cutout around the colt logo was missing on the later stocks. It just looked wrong whenever I looked at this Python, so she's now back to her original state. My one and only safe queen. I just like to take her out every once in awhile and give her a nice coating of Renaissance Wax.

Very, very nice. She looks perfect. I'll bet the 4" is even more valuable. I've seen very few and never one in that kind of excellent condition. Congratulations.

Its your gun and your choice what to do with it. But unless you bought it as an investment, why not shoot it? I mean hell, your python that you own, and mine that I wish I owned, are equally useful to us right now. It might as well be a picture from a gun mag you have hanging on your wall if you don't take it out and enjoy it. They weren't made to be looked at, but to be shot. Thats just my opinion but it just seems that life is too short to own cars you won't drive, wine you won't drink or guns you won't shoot.

The back page of American Rifleman had one like that a few months back listed at over $6,000.

Only if you plan on selling it. In which case resist temptation. Otherwise I still maintain that its like having a Shelby Cobra and not driving it for fear of an accident. To each their own.

It looks pretty much identical to my Colt Boa which has never been fired except for the test rounds at the factory. My brother's both have the 6 inch Boas and we've all got consecutive numbers. My dad's Python is in about the same condition as your gun. I've got a relatively pristine Anaconda as well. I came pretty close to getting my first wife's dad to give me his Diamondback.

All nice. I need some snake medicene.

Where do you find a Shelby Cobra NIB? They have been driven, so drive them a, but keep them nice. You don't find many 40 year old virgins and sometimes it's nice to keep them that way. ;D

The virgins might disagree. ;D

Try Match box, no joke, on several of their designs they had assistance from the same guys who actually designed the real cars, they were the most accurate reproductions in their scale which is why adults collect them. Some of the older MatckBox cars, if still in the original package, will bring a nice down payment on a real car.

Thanks Tom
Yet another childhood toy, like my star wars figures ( like my free offer in a cereal box Boba Fett with shooting missle, I won't even mention the price), britians limited Civil War soldiers and now matchbox cars that I could have bought that Ruger AR with (and maybe even some ammo) if I'd kept them. Sigh! :-\
