Title: New AR Owner
Post by: fightingquaker13 on June 23, 2009, 02:53:50 PM
Folks, I would highly suggest a trip www.midwestgunexchange.com.
I just scored an NIB DPMDS AR at $569 with 4 30 round magpulls at $11 each. Life is good, though I do own the worlds funniest looking Saiga. ;D Sometimes a screwed up deal is a very good thing. Saiga with mags $489, AR with mags $639 including shipping.

Agreed on mags, however money is tight. Right now I'm just going to pull my B@L Elite 3000 off the .270 (which I haven't fired in two years) and buy some rings (any advice for picantinny rings would be appreciated as I am unfamiliar with this type of mount). Step two is a set of flip up sights. If anyone knows any good budget ones I would be appreciative. Down the road, a .22 conversion which seems like a huge long term moneysaver. And of course ammo. Oh well, it will look scary and I can yell BANG! :P

Awesome, way to go FQ13. You made up you mind pretty quickly.

It seems that 3 out of every 5 posts that I've written lately say congratulations FQ13 on the new acquisition. What are they paying professors these days? That's got to be 5 or 6 new weapons in the last few weeks. Have you got a bank robbing gig on the side? ;D

Congrats again, we'll need pics and range reports on the new toys.

Just 3, a Glock 26, a Maverick Security 12 and now the AR, (which was supposed to be a Saiga before fate stepped in). As far as salary, this professor is unemployed, but I inheireted a number of guns from my granddad, and while it may seem strange to anyone not on this board, I try to maintain a strict guns for guns policy no matter how skinny things may get. That is, I only sell a gun to buy another gun. Otherwise its too easy to piss them away on frivolous stuff like food and find yourself regretting it sooner rather than later. Twisted logic I know, but I doubt I'm the only one here that thinks that way. Besides, what are the odds of seeing a $569 DPMS AR? That was cheap even a year and a half ago.

That is one of the best deals that I've seen in a long time. DPMS ARs are going for right at 1 grand around here and they are moving very well. (Good buddy and local LEO has a gun store in town).

Congrats again. I'm happy for you!!!!

And you are many times thanked. I knew it was off this board, but I couldn't remeber which thread or poster. I did download that sale catalog and began drooling. It was a very small hassel as the operators weren't sure about sale prices by phone and I had to call the wholesale folks to get a shippment and they didn't know the prices. That's why I bought so fast. I was afraid that the price WAS in-store only and (and in keeping with old sayings thread) I wanted to strike while the iron was hot, for in confusion there is profit. I was afraid that if I waited till tommorow when the manager was back I would receive a big fat no, so I had 45 minutes to read reviews, consult with you guys and make the call. Of course, if the rifle sucks, I'll blame Tom. ;D But seriously that is one hell of a sale, $11 magpulls, $400 Smiths, mini 14s for $630? Wow! Plus less than $20 shipping. You can't beat it with a stick. I just wish it happened last year when I still had a paycheck. So thank you Oh Great One

I'm glad you were able to get it.  Hopefully they won't renege on the sale.  I posted about them so hopefully someone could take advantage of the deals.  I just wish they were in Michigan for handguns.  When you start paying transfer and shipping fees to have it sent to my local dealer the cost goes up considerably.

South Bend, Indiana, that boarders Mishawauka where MGE is located has a local law prohibiting magazines over 10 rounds.  I haven't been able to confirm it, but I've heard stories of MGE customers and CPL holders gettin busted after leaving there and driving through South Bend.  When I got my AR last fall, I didn't even think about it.  I guess I was one of those evil gun runners with my carload of an AR and a dozen or so AR and AK 20 and 30 round mags.

I hope they don't renege either, but even if they do the AK should still be there.

I 'd still wait and find an AR that you can afford for all the above mentioned reasons.

UH... You bought the gun(s) legally and are transporting to your residence where you can legally have them and can get busted in between?

Please explain this a bit clearer for those of us that don't have to put up with this BS.

Hell Haz I didn't write the stupid law.  I did error, it's 15 rounds.  As I said earlier I haven't verified any one as being busted for this, but have heard storie of it.   As the Sportsman Club I belong to is closer (about 15 drive) than I am to South Bend, there have been several warnings given about travieling to SB and carrying there,   I know I have seen mail order companies that had note on some of their items that they would not ship to SB.

Here is a link to their local codes.  In general 13-94 to 13-99 and in particular 13-94 (c) and 13-96 (b) (1)
