Title: New Shooters
Post by: Boulderlaw on October 04, 2007, 10:21:35 PM
I have taken a few friends shooting several times and they seem to like it (i.e., they come back for more). But, I haven't yet figured out a good way to encourage them to buy their own guns. I think it is of vital importance to broaden gun ownership - both for political and social reasons.  Any ideas or experiences?

Well...

How about telling them getting one that feels good to them and that they can set up their way makes it even more enjoyable.

Then maybe stop by a shop on the way to or from the range to pick up some ammo (pretext) and point out some .22s or what ever to them.

(Also tell 'em it's time they cleaned yours.  ;D)

To help them enjoy their first experience, I start them with my LaserAim device to get trigger control and sight picture down pat without recoil and muzzle blast distracting them. Then I progress through mild .38 Spl. loads, and have them firing .357 Mags by the end of the session.

To encourage them to get their own guns, I ask what they'd do it they came home and found four big guys with knives about to rape their wife/daughter (or other evil act based on the particular person's situation).
