ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)—An off-duty police officer shot and wounded two men who had assaulted him in the crowded Angel Stadium parking lot after Wednesday night’s Colorado Rockies-Los Angeles Angels game, authorities said.
The officer, who was walking to his car with his wife and two small children about 25 minutes after the game, was hit in the head with beer bottles, police Sgt. Tim Schmidt said. “We think he was the victim of a crime,” Schmidt said.
The officer called a dispatcher at his department and asked for help, saying two men had choked him and asked him to get away from his car, Sgt. Rick Martinez said.
The off-duty officer then shot the men with his duty weapon, Martinez said. Police did not immediately identify the officer or the shooting victims.

The account sounds a tad disjointed, but from what it does say it sounds as if he was well within his rights. The biggest surprise from this article is that, since it comes out of Kalifornia, I thought for sure it would blame the gun for harming these two, hapless young men.

That's kind of what's happening. The family of the BG's is already on the TV news spouting about how the guys that were shot were no where near the officer's car and that they weren't drinking and about how the officer had no "right" to carry a gun.
If my family and I were at the game, we wouldn't have been allowed to carry. This incident sheds a lot of light on that. We also had a guy killed by 2 attackers at the stadium on opening day.

Another article that needs a more accurate title. ::)

I don't know how it is in that jurisdiction, but when I was a LEO I was REQUIRED to carry 24/7. Being caught out somewhere without my sidearm was grounds for disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. Theory being that I was ALWAYS on duty.
