TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Soldiers seized the national palace and flew President Manuel Zelaya into exile Sunday, hours before a disputed constitutional referendum. Zelaya, a leftist ally of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, said he was victim of a coup.
Hours later, Congress voted to accept what it said was Zelaya's letter of resignation, but Zelaya said the letter wasn't his and vowed to remain in power.
The Supreme Court said it was supporting the military in what it called a defense of democracy, and the Honduran ambassador to the Organization of American States said the military was planning to swear in Congressional President Roberto Micheletti — who is next in line to the presidency — to replace Zelaya.
Zelaya was arrested shortly before polls were to open in a referendum on whether to change the constitution. The Supreme Court ruled the referendum illegal and everyone from Congress to members of his own party opposed it. Critics said Zelaya wanted to remove limits to his re-election.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Iranian authorities have barred journalists for international news organizations from reporting on the streets and ordered them to stay in their offices. This report is based on the accounts of witnesses reached in Iran and official statements carried on Iranian media.
___
Several thousand protesters — some chanting "Where is my vote?" — clashed with riot police in Tehran on Sunday as Iran detained local employees of the British Embassy, escalating the regime's standoff with the West and earning it a stinging rebuke from the European Union.
Witnesses said riot police used tear gas and clubs to break up a crowd of up to 3,000 protesters who had gathered near north Tehran's Ghoba Mosque in the country's first major post-election unrest in four days.
Some described scenes of brutality, telling The Associated Press that some protesters suffered broken bones and alleging that police beat an elderly woman, prompting a screaming match with young demonstrators who then fought back.
The reports could not be independently verified because of tight restrictions imposed on journalists in Iran.

I'm not a fan of military coups, particularly in Latin America, as they tend to end badly. However, this guy clearly violated the constitution for personal gain and the constitutionally appropriate civilian was sworn in. I say well done.

WOW! A "stinging rebuke" from the EU?
That'll teach em'.
As far as Honduras, well I'm glad any "ally" of Hugo Chavez was thrown out.

Glad to see the bum go, but on a personal note, my wife's very close first cousin is down in Honduras on an annual missionary trip with his wife and twin 18 y/o daughters. Prayers please for the safe return of the Tucker family and all of the members of their church on the mission trip. There are many young kids in the group. They are currently in a remote village awaiting the return of a 5 person Cessna on Thursday to get out the first 5. Tuckers scheduled out on Friday. The State Department does know that they are there and the location of the village.....for what it's worth.

2 things.
First, prayers given.
Second, why doesn't State know? Make damn sure they or someone else informs them, prefferably down to the street address or GPS coorordinate. The state Department is actually good about this (under any adminstration) and thats what we have a Marine Corps for. They have never been shy about airlifting US nationals out if they are in danger. I don't know if they are in danger, but I can guarantee that if the embassy is informed of their location and that there are children involved, that it will be moved to the top of someone's "don't f..k this up" list.
Again, prayers said

Remember, Honduras, like Panama, and a couple others,..... like America, and Americans. Sure there are always factions, gangs, thugs, etc,.. but you can get all that in some cities in this country.
Getting out before Chavez does something really dumb like he mouthed off today is a good idea, but the Honduran military threw the bum out for attempting to change the constitution. (A mini Chavez maneuver)..... Lots of local support here in South Florida for kicking his ass to the curb,..(kinda makes you go Hmmmmmm,....) :-X
Praying they get home safely anyway.

And yet, The Won, 0bama, our "Gay Champion" (see below) - you know, bho - is also supporting this bum:

FTA: "In Washington, Obama said the United States will "stand on the side of democracy" and work with other nations and international groups to resolve the matter peacefully.
"We believe that the coup was not legal and that President Zelaya remains the democratically elected president there," Obama said. "It would be a terrible precedent if we start moving backwards into the era in which we are seeing military coups as a means of political transition rather than democratic elections.""
Of course, they are birds of a feather. Any bets we see similar moves to Zelaya's here somewhere around day 2 of the second term? Will it then be the time?

Have you noticed the caliber of people who supported him!!!!! Fully 2/3 of them are probably going to be nominated for Darwin awards before it's all said and done. And THAT is what keeps me awake at night. The fact that there are THAT MANY ignorant leaches in this country.
I can't wait for the apocalypse. All these stupid bottom feeders, that think the government is going to take care of them will be the first to go. Then once we've thinned the herd, we can start to go after those that got us into this mess. Don't worry they'll be easy to find. Just look for the mansion with the wall around it.
Anybody got a siege weapon stashed in their garage?
