Hi Michael:
I found it interesting and confusing that, right after saying ammo development has come a long way since the 1970s, you would choose .45 in ball to fight your way out of Katrina-hit New Orleans. As a fairly new shooter, it just hit me as a contradiction. I mean, if you could have your druthers, wouldn't you go with some good self-defense ammo in .45? For example, Silver tips or Gold Dots?
Just trying to understand.
Thanks,
Dave
P.S. BTW, love your show and I can listen to you no matter how long it is! It really amazes me that you can hold my attention *and* keep me entertained for as long as you do. And, I love your rants!!! ;D

I infer the choice of ball would be for reliability, especially if one were running a 1911.

In that situation the pistol absolutely MUST go bang every time you pull the trigger, after mag problems the primary cause for jams is the blunt HP hanging up on the feed ramp. That will not happen with Ball ammo.
-
Ball has quickly kicked many bad guys out of the gene pool over the decades folks..don't disprespect it.

You may want to have a round that will penetrate and feed, altho I have never had a FTF in my 1911 it could happen with a HP. I would suggest it could happen much more often in a short barrel ,steep ramp pistol. I would have no problem with ball ammo.

Agreed....even 9mm ball ammo is nothing to sneeze at...seemed to work for the Germans and the British since WWII and after...

Yea, but there are round nose bullets that bloom like a hollowpoint.

I don't want to be hit by any of it.
given the choice, I'd rather be hit by 9 x19 ball then 45acp ball.

I would rather not get hit at all. I dont care what the round is, a bullet is a bullet its going to do some damage. FMJ's work in a wider range of firearms so no problems here.
