For the 1st time in my life I believe the american flag should be flown upside down on the 4th. Those in congress do not listen to the people and we are in trouble as a country. I am flying my flag which was flown over the capital a few years ago, upside down and will continue to fly it this way until we are out of danager.

Several of my Navy vet buddies are circulating a Veterans protest email against closure of hundreds of Veterans Hospitals over the weekend by flying the colors inverted.
Personally, I think it's going to lose it's affect because people are celebrating the long weekend more than our independence these days.
I would fly the flag at half staff but not inverted.

With ACORN supplying more voters than a district has residents like in the Coleman/Franken race, and 20 million illegal aliens that the administration wants to amnesty an election doesn't amount to a piss hole in the snow.

Yes, we may live in a country with more freedoms than any other, HOWEVER, we are no where NEAR as free as we were 30 or 40 years ago. Your going to enjoy "my second amendment rights", you mean the one that "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" ? As long as you have individual permission from the FBI anyway ? You are going to work where and when you please ? Good for you, the socialist bastard killed the manufacturing sector so I have been on unemployment for the last 5 months.

I miss that country too. Two thoughts...one being that if you've never experienced certain freedoms, how can you miss them and two if you are in an isolated patch of the country, like when I moved here 12 years ago, one will be unaware of the evil if their range of information comes in from the ouside via the mainstream meda.
I remember when anyone could go down to the feed store and buy a case or two of dynamite to blast stumps or what not.
I remember when a kid could order a 22 from Sears mail order and have it delivered to home.
I remember when you could walk on a plane with a gun and they'd ask if there was a round in the chamber or not.
Back 40 years ago in major metropolitan areas, it was front page news in the Sunday paper if a woman got raped that week....and a big spread if it happened more than twice a month.
Years ago, a bad kid was one that chewed gum in class knowing good and well he wasn't supposed to.
Before there was this Great Society that Johnson foisted on us people took care of one another...and appreciated the help.
There was very little health insurance for anyone...then, as now, people aren't dying by the ten's of thousands without it.
Everyone knew if someone was in the country illegally they were a criminal.
Men weren't scared to stand up for something....I guess a lot of the single parent mommy families have changed all of that...shame on the dads who failed to participate...why is little Johnny queer???
I remember when kids walked up and down the roads and streets carrying guns to go hunting and shooting....no silly scared old women or silly single parent mommy boys crying about a kid with a gun and calling the police on them because they are frightened.
I remember if a woman had a flat tire a guy would stop and change it and she never had to worry about being molested.
People were polite and generally didn't cut in line or anything....and chastised those who did and the men made the offender get in the back of the line....or leave (did that just the other day, by the way).
People would help the elderly, move out of their way in lines, load their groceries for them...whatever else...because it is the right thing to do.
You could vote for either party and not worry that the President would trash the country.
Boy, we have really improved things...all of this tolerance, diversity, illegal influx, enlightenment, personal affluence and satisfaction...sure has made this a better place to live....NOT.

I remember not too many years ago (in the last 15 - 20) playing with dynamite like firecrackers on the 4th. We used to take used two and a half gallon chemical and oil jugs (the ones with the plastic label wrap around them), fill them with water, put a full or partial stick of dynamite behind the label, and shoot at them from fifty yards ;D The real fun would come when you stacked the jugs with the dynamite on the bottom one. You could send water filled jugs a long ways up into the sky ;D
Another fun thing was to take a black steel drum (50 gallon), put a gallon of gas in it, roll it around the yard and stand it out in the sun (all sealed tight). Come back after a couple hours and shoot it :o The only downside was picking up pieces of steel drum from the yard or field for days afterwards. We tried it with black plastic, but you need the sparks of the bullet ripping through the steel to make it go pop.
Has anyone every tried accetylene (you know the gas that you use in a torch with oxygen ... damn I need to learn to spell) balloons :o

Yep, we used to do safety seminars where we'd light a small balloon full of O2 (just popped), one full of acetylene (bigger pop) and just when we had the trainees about to nod off, we'd light off one of both gases mixed (major concussion). It's something you want to do outside if you don't want to blow out windows. We don't do it in seminars anymore, but we do show it on a DVD. One of my customers gets a couple cylinders of hydrogen and one of oxygen every 4th. He mixes the gas in small weather balloons and sends them about 1K feet in the air. Then he touches them off remotely. Pretty impressive.

Thank you for the wonderful memories. Fortunately, I'm old enough to remember the country that you spoke of so eloquently. Man I wish we could bring back the REAL America, not this politically correct, ACLU creation, and now Socialist country that we live in today.

My Dad has always maintained that saying we were the Freest Nation on earth was a form of lying. He said the REAL test was not comparing today's America with today's China, but comparing today's America with AMERICA 50 or 75 years ago. Then we see how much we have lost. My Great Grand Father said he had seen the greatest days America would ever have, He died in 1969. I doubted him when I watched an American walk on the moon. I started wondering when media propaganda caused us to abandon our allies in South Vietnam, I tried not to think about it while I was sitting at Camp LeJeune hoping carter would man up and send us to Iran, I started to get my hopes up again under Reagan and Bush, HOT DAMN, we were actually saying what we meant and meaning what we said ! but the whole time there was a voice in the back of my head saying " Why are the media and liberals so violent in their attacks on everything these guys say and do ? aren't they Americans too ? Aren't they hoping America comes out on top ?"
I got my answer over the next 16 1/2 years, a media that glorified a serial sex offender who is the only US President convicted in an impeachment trial, while his VP votes to give already stretched Social Security benefits to illegal aliens. A president that sat by impotently while our embassies were bombed and even our naval vessels were attacked, a president who was warned about Bin Laden but lacked the balls to act decisively. Then Came George W Bush, in the years since 9-11-01 my nose has been rubbed in the fact that the answer to my earlier question was a resounding NO ! The media and the liberals ARE NOT Americans, they are NOT on our side and they most definitely do NOT want to see America come out on top.

That one is a low blow. To leave your country behind like that would say a man isn't willing to fight for what is right, that one is not willing to die for a cause...to say that implies a man is selfish and prefers personal comfort and runs when things get tough.

Not to mention aiming the same slight at my Father who won the nations third highest award for Bravery in Combat, the Silver Star, as well as the Purple Heart for enemy inflicted wounds received as a Marine Sgt. serving as a machine gun section leader during the outpost battles of the Korean War.
As a Marine Veteran myself I would have to guess that bbbean is either young and just doesn't "Get it " yet, or he is one of those who makes me question if America Deserves the people who die so they can remain ignorant, in which case he will never "get it ".

I wish I lived in that country. I feel like we've got a bunch of Nero's trying to take over this country and destroy it just for their own pleasure and satisfaction. Like we're at the fall of Rome and in for five hundred years of dark ages.

Free America today is about the same as the 70's USSR as far as representation in Govt, and justice system. In short, the elites don't care what you want, just listen to the state media and STFU.

What used to be a Republic ruled by law has become the dictatorship of the talking heads, rather than law we are ruled by the latest media event.
We will have another Civil War soon, because the Obama's and the Pelosi's do not hold the power. Their strings are pulled by America hating globalists like George Soros, who is known to have dedicated BILLIONS of dollars of his own fortune into the establishment of on global socialist state.
In order to achieve that they need to separate the population from any other source of inspiration or relief, therefore, discredit religion, discredit Patriotism, discredit the normal family unit. In order to impose this they need a disarmed fearful populace, so they nibble away at gun rights while actually allowing crime to flourish with minimal sentencing, and probation for crimes up to and including rape and murder.
Do you know the REAL reason Timothy McViegh got a needle in his arm while those 2 women from the SLA got 5 years between them for bombings, bank robberies and killing an Oakland Cop ? Because McViegh was against the global socialist order, other wise he would have become a "cause celebre" to the liberal left and appeals and stays would have been filed on his behalf until hell froze over.

Communism, like the Muslim religion, is an ideology founded on the goal of world domination. According to their own writings, "All progressive nations are in one or another stage of socialism. they can only achieve Communism when the entire world has adopted socialism".
The infiltration of America began in the later 1800's with the labor Union movement, which is how Marxists successfully infiltrated European societies, a look through history will show that all countries socialist movements started with the organization of national Trade, and Labor unions, even in places like Vietnam, China, and Peru, were the revolution withdrew to rural areas, it initially started with urban union organizers.
In America we were lucky to forestall the advance because organized crime groups beat (literally) the socialists in the fight for union power. This defeat led America's socialists to fall back on their second choice of infiltrating the Main Stream Media with such apologists as Walter Durante of the New York Times. and the education system, with a plethora of leftist Professors. The next step was to infiltrate the halls of power which they accomplished between the world wars with direct Soviet assistance through legendary "Comintern", or Communist International, an allegedly independent, international, socialist organization that was known even at the time to be nothing more than an arm of the Soviet state security apparatus (Eventually known as the KGB) these ideologically inspired infiltrators had their greatest success in America during the FDR administration when the Depression and rising tensions with more Nationalistically oriented aggressors in Italy, Germany , and Japan led to the wide spread (by the already infiltrated media and Academia )myth that "Fascism" was a more serious and immediate threat than socialism, ( expansionist totalitarian states are an equal threat no matter what they are called, and ALL the "fascist" governments espoused and applied much of the socialist program ) This distraction allowed FDR to begin his program of radicalizing America through his socialist inspired "New Deal" policies which in the years since have been proven to have actually lengthened and worsened the depression with things like the previously unconstitutional graduated income tax, and the issuance of fake money no longer backed by any intrinsic value of gold or silver. He also allowed his administration to be over run with not only convinced socialists but actual Soviet agents, such as Laughlin Curry and Harry Dexter White.
Churchill in a post war speech in Fulton Mo. issued a wake up call to an America who's prosperous upper class was still enamored with "Uncle Joe" Stalin when he said "From Stettin on the Baltic to Trieste on the Adriatic, an Iron curtain has descended across the map of Europe ". Unfortunately this alarm, which triggered the so called "Red Scare" of the late 40's and 50's came to late to do more than slow the advance of American socialism. Attempts to protect America, and reverse the erosion of our core values, such as the House UnAmerican Activities Committee (HUAC) were decried by so called "Agents of Influence" in the media and groups like the ACLU and an already heavily infiltrated Hollywood. When in entirely separate hearings Sen. Joseph McCarthy claimed to have a list of 51 known communists working at the State Department and demanded to know why known security risks were given access to the upper echelons of Americas National Security organizations, He got no answers, instead he was vilified in the press, accused by the diversity loving left (ironicly enough by a known Homosexual ) of being a homosexual and accused (also falsely ) of being responsible for numerous deaths by suicide of "persecuted" witnesses, this was not a distortion it was another out right lie by the media and leftist members of an already infiltrated democratic party. In fact the only person involved who died by suicide or any other unnatural cause was one witness, a McCarthy supporter and source who, breaking under the stress of mud slinging and personal attacks in the press leapt from a rather high window. (For the record, investigations based on declassified code intercepts made against orders, and examination of contemporary Soviet records shows that the actual number of code named Soviet agents and sources in and around the administration was in fact not the 50 or 100 claimed by McCarthy, but 301,including Ethel and Julius {code name "Liberal"} Rosenberg who were executed for their part in the Atomic Bomb spy ring and like other traitors have since become a "Cause Celebre" in leftist circles) The Damage was done however and the creeping advance of Marxism was not to be stopped. During the 60's the Soviets allowed thier minions in academia and the media to be used to undermine our efforts against a brutal communist regime in Southeast Asia, that, in the face of communist inspired, and often financed, Demonstrations, led to the abandonment of our Allies and much of southern Asia to the doubtful joys of socialism.
Seeing the success of their anti war campaign the forces of socialism continued their campaign against freedom by such useful tools as "the Peace movement" which protested every defensive move by the US or it's NATO allies, but remained noticeably silent in the face of such naked communist aggression as the suppression of the Hungarian, German, Czech, and Polish independence movements and the Killing fields of Cambodia, they continued their activities, by vilifying Reagan's activities to beef up America's defenses and support anti communist Govts in Central America with more protests and fear mongering such as Carl Sagan's spurious "Nuclear winter" research, which has since been proven to have been A) false, and B) funded though cut outs by the KGB.
Even though the Soviet Union has perished the it's own ideological inconsistencies the minions of the left continue to work against America, their minions are still deeply entrenched in the MSM, Our colleges, universities and schools, politics, and unions. Ever wonder why the National Pediatrics group is so actively anti 2A despite the ridiculously small number of actual "children" killed by firearms ? Simple, like the Nation Education Association, and the AMA, their leadership contains a significant number of people who are Socialists and followers of the failed Marxist Ideology.
We will never regain lost ground or be safe from further encroachment as long as these misguided people retain positions of influence from which to advance their treasonous agenda.

What is the major difference that leads to this division ? He learned his subjects and was influenced in a left leaning Academic environment while I since before I quit school in the 9th grade have read subjects that interested me and applied what I read to the things I saw around me, with little or no influence from any one else directing me toward a desired conclusion, I did not need to come up with "right answers" for a standardized test, I simply wanted workable answers to make sense of the world around me.

Dispute over flag protest erupts in Wisc. village

WAUSAU, Wis. – An American flag flown upside down as a protest in a northern Wisconsin village was seized by police before a Fourth of July parade and the businessman who flew it — an Iraq war veteran — claims the officers trespassed and stole his property.
A day after the parade, police returned the flag and the man's protest — over a liquor license — continued.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin is considering legal action against the village of Crivitz for violating Vito Congine Jr.'s' First Amendment rights, Executive Director Chris Ahmuty said.
"It is not often that you see something this blatant," Ahmuty said.
In mid-June, Congine, 46, began flying the flag upside down — an accepted way to signal distress — outside the restaurant he wants to open in Crivitz, a village of about 1,000 people some 65 miles north of Green Bay.
He said his distress is likely bankruptcy because the village board refused to grant him a liquor license after he spent nearly $200,000 to buy and remodel a downtown building for an Italian supper club.
Congine's upside-down-flag represents distress to him; to others in town, it represents disrespect of the flag.
Hours before a Fourth of July parade, four police officers went to Congine's property and removed the flag under the advice of Marinette County District Attorney Allen Brey.
Neighbor Steven Klein watched in disbelief.
"I said, 'What are you doing?' Klein said. "They said, 'It is none of your business.'"
The next day, police returned the flag.
Brey declined comment Friday.
Marinette County Sheriff Jim Kanikula said it was not illegal to fly the flag upside down but people were upset and it was the Fourth of July.
"It is illegal to cause a disruption," he said.
The parade went on without any problems, Kanikula said.
Village President John Deschane, 60, an Army veteran who served in Vietnam, said many people in town believe it's disrespectful to fly the flag upside down.
"If he wants to protest, let him protest but find a different way to do it," Deschane said.
Congine, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq in 2004, said he intends to keep flying the flag upside down.
"It is pretty bad when I go and fight a tyrannical government somewhere else," Congine said, "and then I come home to find it right here at my front door."
