Title: Palin Quits, Transfers Power to Lt. Governor
Post by: tt11758 on July 03, 2009, 02:54:33 PM
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/03/palin-opts-run-second-term-alaska-governor/ (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/03/palin-opts-run-second-term-alaska-governor/)
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Friday that she would not seek a second term, setting up a potential run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

Quote
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin shocked the political word Friday by announcing that she will step down at the end of the month and transfer power to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell.

Palin made the announcement from her home in Wasilla, flanked by her husband, Todd, and family and state commissioners.

Palin's decision now allows her to avoid the difficult task of running for president while serving as governor.

Palin gained national prominence when GOP presidential candidate John McCain picked her as his running mate last year. But her approval ratings in the state have skidded in recent months.

Palin has been dogged in recent months by ethics inquiries. Her office last month announced the 15th dismissal of an ethics complaint against her or one of her staff.

Palin defeated incumbent Gov. Murkowski in a primary in 2006.

She is not going quietly into the night,....

I hope she has her sights on calling out this current admin. for what it is, and can assist in getting rid of the present POTUS.

Things do not look good for team Wasilla. Look, love the woman or hate her, there are two things I know.
1) Anyone would rather run for President as an incumbentant reformist governor than someone who quit out of the blue halfway through their first term. Regardless of ideology, people will ask why would you do this? If you would rather run for office than do your job, or why should I trust you with the next one?
2) In the politics business Friday is called trashday. You take out the garbage on Friday afternoon because no-one reads the papers onSaturday. That is doubly true of the Friday before July 4th. If she wanted this to make a splash all wrapped up in red white and blue, she would have done it last Monday.
Something is very wrong in Casa Palin, or she is very stupid. I don't think she's that stupid.

There has to be a reason for her leaving... I'd bet its not a good one.

you don't just quit mid term like that...

You both have maintained an irrational, and unsupported hatred of her since day one so your opinions don't really mean much, BUT FQ's #1 is a valid question, her term was up in 2010, that still would have plenty of campaign time, and resigning in mid term is bound to raise questions unless her goal is not the Presidency in 2012, but the Senate in 2010.

Quote
If only all political races could be settled with a simple cross country run.
That's probably what Sarah Palin would want, anyway.
In a recent interview with Runner's World, the governor of Alaska expressed how she'd do in a race against President Obama.
"If [it] were a long race that required a lot of endurance I'd win," she said, boasting that while she may lack the physical strength to take on the President, she could outlast him by sheer will power.
"I betcha I'd have more endurance," she said. "If you ever talk to my old coaches they'd tell you, too. What I lacked in physical strength or skill I made up for in determination and endurance."
Although Palin did admit she likely wouldn't do well against Obama at basketball, the President's chosen sport.
"He towers over me and I wouldn't be complaining about an unfair advantage there," she said. "But maybe I'd do better playing H-O-R-S-E with him than one-on-one," she said.
The one-time vice presidential candidate also spoke on how much running is a part of her life, and has impacted her view on politics:
"You have to have determination and set goals, and you don't complain when something's hurting because no one wants to hear it," the 45-year-old Republican said.
"You get bummed and burned out sometimes in running and in politics, but if you're in for the long haul and you're in it because you know that it is a good thing, then you get out there and you do it anyway."
Palin also revealed that she was injured running at John MaCain's ranch only days before the debate with Joe Biden during the presidential campaign.
"I was in heaven and there were plenty of hills so I knew my thighs were going to just throb and my lungs were going to burn and that's what I crave," she explained, adding that Secret Service agents were along for the jog.
While running, she fell, cutting up her hand, which required her to wear a bandaid during the debate.
"I made those guys [the Secret Service] swear to secrecy," she said. "And I have this great respect for them that they've kept silent all these months."
Palin also noted that her runs usually consists of some of the same music, including Van Halen and AC/DC. Although she does close it out with a little country, such as Amy Grant.

OK  she wins   she is an AC/DC  Fan   :o :o ;D ;D ;D :o :o :o

whats stoping her from running for senate?  does AK have a state law against the gov running for senate?

even if that is the case, why not just come out and say that?

I finally found a copy of Palins speech. If I didn't like her before, I really don't like her now. My two favorite quotes:
"It may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down plod along. That's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out."
Really? Sorry Sarah, its called doing doing your damn job when the going gets tough, and its inconveinant, and you promised people you'd do it. And the quitter's way out is, well, quitting. >:(
Something I think even Tom will agree with me on is my second favorite:
Her quote from "MacArthur" " We are not retreating, we are advancing in a different direction". Sorry, but that was not (to my shame, uttered by an Army General) it came from a Marine. Specicificaly Oliver Smith of the 1st Marines who led his men out of the Choisin Resevoir. The quote was "Retreat Hell"! We're just advancing in a different direction". If the woman cannot be bothered to properly attribute one of the most famous military quotes in American history correctly in a prepared statement announcing a momentous political event, even getting the service branch wrong........
Sorry Sarah, those fish floating down stream you mentioned? You betch'a! >:( ::)

Trite and trivial, the both of you. You went looking for something to hang your dislike or hatred on, found something, and ran with it.

As for her family not behaving "Christian", that only shows your own ignorance. Every Christian understands that we - people - are all flawed and fallible. We cannot be perfection - there has only been one person who was. But, that does not mean we stop trying to be Christ-like in our behavior, striving always for salvation, or in emulation of Him.

As for me, I think the reason is more sinister - not from her, but at her. Given how much the lamestream media and libs have continued in their overt, blatant hatred of her after the election (McCain? McCain who?), IMHO, someone got to her.

As to FQ's No.2

The DNC sent more "dumpster divers" and dirt digging scumbags to Alaska during the campaign, they didn't even try to keep it low profile.  The liberal media, lied, misquoted, and said she has no exp. While promoting a community organizer, usurping bastard.(source,... Tom Bogan, 2009) ;)
She is more like the millions of people that voted against BHO, and liberals are still trying to destroy her.

The liberal media has been trying to railroad her since day one. WHY? Because she scares liberals. The State Run Media is so obsessed that the Today show this morning "analyzed" the situation with worthless talking heads for the first 20 minutes of the show.

Fox News covered it for 7 minutes, with Juan Williams, a known liberal, who knows she can fill a 10,000 seat arena anywhere in the country at anytime.

Now she's free to be a vocal dissenter of the current POTUS, that can draw a crowd anywhere she goes, and she will still scare liberals.

Hopefully, at the end of BHO's term, ANY alternative will win.

MacArthur "retreated" from the Phillipines on PT boats in the middle of the night, but he was also advancing in another direction and "returned". Maybe she was paraphrasing...

Micromanaging makes you age faster FQ,  we know you have voters remorse,..

TAB, My guess would be that unlike Kerry, the Clintons, and BO, She would want to be free to concentrate on campaigning with out ignoring the job she was getting paid for.
As to your comment about " as to why I never cared for her... its simple, just like obama, she has zero exp in running a country, hell she has zero exp in running a biz.."  She has however run a STATE where as Obama never ran ANYTHING.  NO ONE but an incumbent President would qualify by your standards.

FQ.  posted,"Her quote from "MacArthur" " We are not retreating, we are advancing in a different direction". Sorry, but that was not (to my shame, uttered by an Army General) it came from a Marine. Specicificaly Oliver Smith of the 1st Marines who led his men out of the Choisin Resevoir. The quote was "Retreat Hell"! We're just advancing in a different direction". If the woman cannot be bothered to properly attribute one of the most famous military quotes in American history correctly in a prepared statement announcing a momentous political event, even getting the service branch wrong....."

Don't be throwing stones FQ, The quote was from Brig. Gen Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller, Regimental Commander of the 1st Marine Regiment, Gen. Smith remained in Hung Nam, He flew into Hagaru Ri to welcome His Division on their return from the Reservoir.
As to the meaning of the comment,  The 1st Marine Div attacked in the direction of greatest enemy concentration, That happened to be South of their current location, Hence "advancing (into the enemies concentrations ) in another direction, (south rather than north). Some interesting historical notes, of the 10 Chinese PLA Divisions 2 were completely destroyed, and 6 were so badly mauled they never again served in the Korean theater, only 2 remained functional combat units. Far from being a defeat, or even severely damaging the 1st Div. When the Marines returned to the coast, thereby securing their lines of supply and communications, they evacuated their casualties, including the ones abandoned by fleeing 8th Army units, resupplied and prepared to counterattack. It was a POLITICAL decision that caused them to be withdrawn south of the 38th parallel.

Based on the amount of bitching (especially by TAB ) that you 2 do about taxes and Govt. interference, your mindless hatred of Palin, a small Govt. fiscal Conservative, who sticks to her moral principals even when they are NOT convenient, stinks of either sexism or hypocrisy. Or possibly  your own socialist tendencies.

One phrase from her announcement that does not get much comment is that she would not run for reelection, and she refuses to be a typical lame duck.

I don't know what the reason behind this is any more than any other speculator on here or out there, but if people will listen to the entire message there is a base here for the early resignation.

Now let's all just wait to see what comes next!  The last thing anyone needs is the public, especially those of us that should be supporting her, thinking and propagating the worst when they have no idea

Mitt Romney did the same thing, leaving Ma in the care of a VERY pregnant Jane Swift and it was never mentioned during HIS campaign, The hypocrites of the "diversity embracing" left chose instead to attack his Mormon religion. Just as they never attacked Palin on her record other than firing an abusive State trooper, instead they chose to resort to personal attacks, apparently the "Right to chose" is only acceptable when it favors killing a child. Apparently out of wedlock birth is OK for the MOTHER of a candidate but not for the Daughter of one.

Actually Tom, it was Paul Celuci that resigned to become the Ambassader of Canada and left the incompetant Mrs. Swift as acting Governor.  Mitt Romney beat her in the Republican primary and suceeded her as Governor.  Romney served all four years and chose not to run for re-election.  Kerry Healy lost to our current shitheap Governor.....

Sorry but as you point out quite often, facts are stubborn things.   ;)

Based on what I know about her to date, I would vote for her.  She reminds me of Margaret Thatcher.

Politics, especially from the liberal side of the isle, seem to have to lie to get elected.  More times than not, using promises of money from the government to buy votes or some special service.  A good example is an x senator from my home state of NC.  He ran as a blue dog democrat to get elected, then became a leftist. He would never be elected a second term, even after his run for VP with Gore.  Now we find out he was sexually involved with another women, and running for President while his wife was battling cancer.  What an ass.

I don't know if the following is true or not but it is inspirational none-the-less.  Maybe I should send a copy to Nancy Pelosi when she gets back from Italy at the governments expense.

Harry Truman
A humble man, who entered the limelight, took care of business, then returned to being what he was, a humble man.
Harry Truman was a different kind of President.  He probably made as many important decisions regarding our nation's history as any of the other 42 Presidents.  However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after he left the White House.
The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in Independence, Missouri.  His wife had inherited the house from her mother and other than their years in the White House, they lived their entire lives there.
When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year.
Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an ‘allowance’ and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year.
After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to Missouri by themselves. There was no Secret Service following them.
When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating,” You don't want me.  You want the office of the President, and that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it's not for sale."
Even later, on May  6, 1971, when  Congress was  preparing to award  him the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused  to accept it, writing,” I don't consider that I have done anything which  should be the reason for any award,   Congressional or otherwise."
As president, he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food.
Modern politicians have found a new level of success in cashing in on the Presidency, resulting in untold wealth.
Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices.  Political offices are now for sale.
Good old Harry Truman was correct when he observed, "My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth there’s hardly any difference."

FTA: "What happened to Sarah Palin is a political game changer on the national level.  It also may be a preview of what every American may face in a few years.

The 18 ethics charges filed since she rose to prominence in Republican circles might be the first time the left has successfully used the Cloward-Piven Strategy to stop an individual politician on the national level.

For those who do not know, the strategy was developed in the late 1960s by two sociologists at Columbia.  In a nutshell it seeks to "hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse".

It was implemented in NYC where activists on the left lobbied for new social programs then worked to fill the rosters.  By the early 1970s there was one person on welfare for every two working in NYC.  This nearly resulted in NYC declaring bankruptcy in 1975, averted only by a federal emergency loan.

In the case of Sarah Palin, political opponents overloaded her with a flood of complaints and consequent legal fees, thus pushing her toward a personal financial crisis and her exit from the public arena.  Like NYC she may come back, but the rules of the game have changed."

The right used the same stratey with Clinton. Mind you, I drank champagne the day he was impeached, but all the nuisance law suits and discovery motions filed by Judicial Watch and others left mid level staffers with thousands in debts and tied the White House in knots. It is a pernicious strategy no matter who uses it as t keeps our elected officias from doing their jobs. This is one point where I sympathize with Palin, and give very gruding thanks to Pelosi for not allowing impeachment hearings. Except in case of corruption or gross abuse of power (or both in Clinton's case) our elected officials should be held accountable to the voters.

Explain why the left still hates her so - a hard, palpable hate at that, virulent hatred for her. Answer that, and you will know why she is "so great" as you put it.

As for your county, it - and your state - are probably high on the gummint seizure lists for bankrupt socialist oligarchies. So I wouldn't be casting too many stones at one of the few states in the Union that is still solvent - without Fed bailouts.

Besides, the point is that even with "less than 4 years" - that is still way more experience than bho and the plagiarizer had together.

So then by your definition, the only qualified individual ever elected was Grover Cleveland.  Being the only president ever elected to 2 non-consecutive terms, he was the first man in history who didn't have "zero exp in running a country" when elected to his second term.  And no, I don't count VPs, because their only real job is to break ties in the Senate.

Path,

The left hates (and fears) her, because the has values that she lives by, speaks of clearly, and does not flex on.  Remember that Pres. BHO publicly stated that he was leaving his church because it was politically best.  Gov. Palin stood by her daughter and family when advising or even speaking favorably on abortion would have won her votes.

Some people just hate the principles that this nation was built on.

Her values are based on belief, not expediency.

Right or wrong, standing pat on one's morals is always admirable in my book. It is hard to find a liberal that doesn't sway with the polls.

I don't know if Palin is electable in 2012, but I hope, at the very least, that she spends her time and talents as a lipstick wearing pit bull to rip and tear at the very fabric of the current socialist regime.

I believe that her straight talk and down to earth manner can open some eyes to the current systematic destruction of our nation.
