Title: Smith &Wesson 617-2 out of layaway
Post by: dj454 on July 04, 2009, 09:48:26 AM

I got it out of layaway last weekend and I have been too busy to post. I have been to the range twice and have fired about 800 rounds through it. I love it. It is a shooter for sure. It really likes the Federal bulk match ammo from WalMart. I am looking forward to the rimfire match to try it out in competition.

Glad you like it!

I have a 617-6 on my wall and have never been sorry I bought it.

Don't let anyone tell you it is to expensive for a .22.  It has been said you can tell the level of gun love by the quality of .22's in his cabinet.  This purchase and your love on it is moving you right on up the list of gun nuts  ;D ;D

Just found this......very nice S&W.

It takes the same quality and attention to build a .22 rimfire as it does a .44mag.  S&W rimfire revolvers are top drawer. I love my model 18, Enjoy yours. ;D ;D ;D

I like my 617. It was supposed to be in 6 shot to match my 625 but it mistakenly came in 10 shot. At least this way I don't have to reload as often.  ;D

Congrats on a real beauty.

Fun to shoot. Inexpensive and available ammo. A great addition at anytime and especially in these times.

Have fun. Be safe.

I love .22 wheel guns.  My Dad gave me his H Standard 6" sentinel that was bought at a hardware store in the 60's.  I can keep up with pretty much any factory .22 like the MKIII's.  Now, if i had money for some uber built comeptition rimfire, I would love it, but for teh time being, I will stick to my DA wheel gun.

I love this gun. I shot it in the rimfire match and won the iron sight pistol class and my score wasn't very far below what I usually shoot with my Ruger Mark 3 with a red dot. It may be expensive but dang it shoots good and handles great also. I think I will keep it.

Congrats on your win. I believe that I'd hang on to it too. If you do grow tired of it............well I'd be happy to do you the favor of taking it off your hands. I won't charge you a thing. It would be my pleasure to help you out. ;D

Nice revolver!

I want to get the 4" version to practice for IDPA SSR/ESR. If I'm not mistaken the 617 is identical to the 686 but is chambered for .22LR. The cost of the revolver is almost, if not the same as, the 686 too....
