I went to the range yesterday with a friend from work. He recently purchased a Ruger LCR and a used Security Six. He let me try them out at the range. I have to say the LCR is sweet. It shot well and the trigger pull is awesome. Recoil is not too punishing with hot .38's but you know when you pull the trigger. I wouldn't mind having a LCR after trying one. I hope it is not recalled. The security six was awesome. I ended up shooting it more than he did. I fell in love with it. It has a smooth trigger pull and handled great and shot exceptionally well. He said I could keep it for the weekend and shoot it some more but I am already in love with it and I have spent too much money in the past couple of months. I think I would take a GP100 or the security six. The GP100's are easier to come by. It's a shame Ruger no longer makes the Security Six.

I always liked the Security Six, it was not as bulky as the S&W Model 27.

My FFL had a consignment Security Six about two months ago for 350 bucks, supposedly unfired. Same guy owned my SP101 and I can attest that mine wasn't fired more than a few times. I just check but he no longer has it listed.
He gets alot of consignment... http://www.firstdefensefirearms.com/

My first handgun was a Stainless 4" security six that I still have 30 + years later. I have also added a round butted speed six snubby. In my opinion the six family, Security Six, Speed Six, and Service Six, are the sweetest DA revolvers that Ruger ever made. From what I understand, they were discontinued because of the cost involved in manufacturing Ruger wasn't making money on them.

You cannot beat a Ruger wheel gun. They may not be a Colt or a Smith, but when it comes to good enough and every time.......... I'll leave it at that. Buy it and you will never regret it.

Haven't got to shoot the LCR yet, have fondled it ;D and loved the trigger pull.
Got my Security Six in 1983 and has been my faverite hand gun since day one. It's on my side on all my hunt trips, fishing, camping anytime in the woods. It truly is a great gun.

the security six was the first .357 I ever used, it was a sweet gun and accurate, I regret ever not making it mine formally. Ended up buying a cz 85 combat, which i still have and has never let me down and only 1 ever jam, dud primer!

My first handgun, purchased 33 years ago, and still one of my favorites. It is in my nightstand right now. I love my Security-Six. The only additions are the new sights that I put on her and the elk grips.

I'd like to try a LCR. I've heard very mixed reviews on recoil.
I can load the Security-Six with .357s and shoot her one handed all day long. Recoil is almost nothing in these solid steel tanks.

The Ruger Police Service Six, was one of the best revolvers I ever owned. Damn divorce in 1997 ended my time with it. :'(
Wish I had it back....

I have an old security six dated back to the 70's. It was my father's gun. Me and my shooting buddies call it old faithfull and you would have to see it to know what I'm talking about.
In the 70's, my father kept numerous guns in the basement, one of them being the security six. Durring a bad storm, we lost power and the basement flooded. It was 3 days before everything subsided and he recovered his pistols. Those in the flood were a couple of Rossis', which totally seized and his security six, which although rusted, still worked. He ended up giving the local gunsmith the Rossi's but kept the security six, thinking he would tinker with it.
All he did was douse it in hoppes, dry fire and dry. The blueing got destroyed and the internals showed some rust but it still worked. The barrel was pitted but not that bad. 30 years later, this gun still shoots, and fairly accurate still to boot. I've never got around to contacting ruger to have a look at it and possibly re-blue it because functionally, it still works. I would like to pass it on to one of my kids one day and will maybe get it reblued then but for now, it's fine.
The security six is actually what I use when I'm testing loads that will be used in one of my pythons. It's buiilt like a tank, has not lost it's timing, and with the original stocks, handles very well. As ugly as it's gotten, I would never let it go.
