Title: Off the Grid
Post by: Timothy on July 09, 2009, 05:36:10 PM
Well, I'm off for my vacation in the am and will be off the grid.  I don't know how I'll get over the DT's and DRTV withdrawl but I'll manage.... ;)

I found out today before I left the shop, that as soon as I get home on the 19th, I'm hopping on a plane to Cincinnati for five days of training on our new laser system.  I've been volunteered to be the Cognizant Engineer in charge of all things laser related........it's OK, I've only been doing this for twenty years now, whats a little more training I don't need!

Anyway...other than a short peek before I go to bed, I gotta go pack the car....

See ya'll in a few weeks, stay away from my single malt while I'm gone! ;D

I don't care about safe and sound or presents ...

Bring back memories and tales  ;D

Have a good one!

Be careful.  Also, since it is a big city, wear an NRA sticker or something just to make sheeple uncomfortable....

In Cinci youve got Paliminos, which while a bit over priced for dinner, does a great lunch, their mushroom soup (portobellos and morels) is inexpensive and the best soup I've ever had. There is also the Rock Bottom Brewery. A chain, but good beer and really good giant sized (like the two they bring you are a meal) hot pretzels. Only beef is that they don't have deli mustard to go with (seriously bring your own, they are great prestzels). Hard to explain why, but they serve their chile over spaghetti there to so who knows? :o Have fun, and since your on an expense account, eat well.

That didn't take as long as I thought.  Pack duds, pack car, pick up pharmacuticals, wash the dog, load mags for the 1911...check and recheck......

Thanks for the well wishes, the first week will be for us and probably the last time the kid (grown woman now) will be doing the family vacation thing.  The second week will be no fun at all but I will get to play with a million dollar laser... ;D

If'n I play the "reciprocity game", I may be bringing home some toys....like a new lever gun!  It's gonna cost me a few pairs of shoes, maybe a pocketbook or two and maybe some special favors, wink, wink!

Off to bed, early wakeup...

Later...(yes Tom, I can tell when someone waters down my nectar!)

 ;)

I'd forgotten how pretty the mountains of central PA are....great drive, great weather....family is good, friends are great, Godson is now 6'0"....time flies...

Have a great time and be safe.  Check the old hole in the wall type of feed stores that sell guns and what not...I'm looking for some pre 1999 SS-190 5.7x28mm rounds...you never know.  I barely missed almost a thousand rounds two years ago at an old time lawn and garden store about 25 miles north of Gulf Shores, Alabama...some old boy had brought a 5.7 pistol with the ammo in the afternoon before and the guys there didn't think it was worth a 600 dollar or so trade-in.....  You never know.....

Ok, I am going to take offense here.   ;D

Being off grid does not mean that you are without internet.  Off grid means that you are off of the distributed electrical grid, i.e. commercial power.  I live 4 miles from the end of the power and phone lines, and I get internet just fine (I am "off grid").  :)

Ok, back to regular programming.

Good one Bidah. LOL Wish I was out there by Wolf Creek now with my boys to take them fishing. Just showed them the movie, A River Runs Through It, and now they are in love with Montana.  :D

Do you generate your own Bidah ?
The idea of wind and solar power has fascinated me since I first started paying an electric bill myself.

Home for one night and then off to Down East Maine..

While in Ohio, I was only able to visit Dicks, Gander Mtn and another small outdoor outfit and all three were devoid of any ammo that I need.  There was plenty of rifle and shotgun ammo available but nothing at all in handgun.  Like Tom said, Kittery is not going to discount anything but it will still be worth the trip.

Home again, now I NEED a rest.

No lever gun, couldn't even find a Puma to look at.  Hefted a couple of Marlins in big bore calibers, NICE RIFLES!.   Kittery had several used pre'64 Winchester '94's but not knowing much about the mechanics I didn't want to risk the money on something I couldn't shoot.  All but one were .30-30, the other was a .32.

NO AMMO in .45 or .38/.357.  Some .40 and a little 9mm and again, pleny of rifle ammo.  Came home empty handed but safely home is better than otherwise.  Did feel kind of naked in ME without at least a revolver in my pocket.

Glad that you're back home safe and sound.

Rest up and get back on the search for that lever gun. I've been droolin' anticipating the porn.

Life is short. Get the gun. ;D

+10 to Kid's post. I hope you ate well in cinnci. But I have to say, I like lever guns and love .357. I'd still  advocate for .44 magnum, but if you aren't going to hunt with it, get the .357 and let us live vicariously.
