Title: Just got a PTR-91 - Has S.G. done a show on HK rifles? It should!! *PICS ADDED*

Hi All,

I just bought my first .308 rifle, a PTR-91 and received it yesterday.  All I can say is WOW!

Up till now my rifle of choice have been RRA AR's, which I believe to be top-notch AR's.  However, my AR's seem like a toy compared to my new PTR!  The PTR is built like a tank.  Plus, I'm getting original HK mags in perfect condition all day long for $3 !!

So now I'm on a mission - it's called "Obsessiveness New Rifleness".  It when I become totally obsessed with everything to do with my latest gun purchase.  Accordingly, has Shooting Gallery done a show on the HK rifles I am not aware of?

Seems to be a huge following on HK rifles and their clones.

BTW, if you are in the Dallas area, check out the new Shooters Club I just started.  My goals are to offer a social group for shooters in the Dallas area, and more importantly to bring NEW shooters into the sport.  I'm running a 50/50 mix of men and women so far, and have almost 40 members after only one week.

I have a PTR91 also.  I used to have a Century G3 but got rid of it because the poor build quality plus the poor ergonomics of the HK rifle series couldn't be overlooked.

That said, the build quality on the PTR line is excellent...better than many HKs I've seen.  The addition of a TacLatch paddle mag release (to get rid of the lousy, unreachable mag release) and a trigger job by Bill Springfield (to get rid of the terrible typical HK trigger pull) makes the rifle pretty good.  Now to do something about the unreachable safety selector and ridiculous charging handle.

So in the end...I like the PTR91...but the FAL is better  ;D

I have to respectfully disagree - I love the charging handle, and even though I have smaller hands, I have no problem with the safety.  I *personally* prefer the ergonomics of the HK layout over my AR (except for the mag release).

I guess this is a rifle for those with big hands.  I haven't had any problems with the mag release (long fingers) or the safety selector (big thumbs).  What can I say?  I'm an oaf. 

My only beef is with the charging handle on the PTR.  The only way I operate that rifle is with a pair of gloves so I don't chew up my hand racking the handle back each time.

wow..   Congradulations on your new rifle! I've seen them at some gun shops. They seem sweet!
