Title: Screw sears.
Post by: TAB on July 17, 2009, 08:05:04 PM
So I went in today to order a security torx bit....  Grand total with taxand shiping  is $3.90...   well you have to order it thru the computer they have right at the registers, they no longer can call it in.   So I get done with that and all the info... it then asks for payment.  CC or gift card.  I want to pay cash.

So the clerk and I come up with buying a gift card for $3.90.  Min is $5.

So that done, I enter the code on the back of the gift card... ok I want my buck ten remaining on the card.  "you have to go up stairs to get that back"

So I go upstairs, wait 20 mins for a manger to come cash out my gift card,  I tell her the mess I had to go thru to order the tool, and she has no idea why I'm disappointed with thier system. :smackhead

I spent 45 mins trying to pay for a $3.90 item and you can't figure out why i'm pissed off?

f..k them, it will be the last thing I ever order from sears.

This is another reason why I hate CRAPSmen tools and Sears in general.

The Snap-on dealer is my 2nd favorite purveyor of goods. Gun dealer is 1st.

The Snap-on tool truck comes to my place of business every Friday and if I need something ASAP from him, he'll go out of his way to get there. Plus I see him driving from business to business almost on a daily basis and if needed, stop to get something then.

Number 1 reason to hate Sears: They are in competition with me and my family here. Put the local franchise out of business 7 times now in the last 71 years of our business, but after each time, some new dumbass decides he will do better then the previous owner and tries again.

Sears has always been rather ackward to deal with.   Two stories.

Years ago (1970s), I had a Sears credit card issued by a Tampa area store.
I move to Jacksonville, and was attempting to by an edger using the "SEARS" credit card in the JAX store.
But because it was over $100, they had to get approval from the credit manager in the Tampa region.
BUT it was lunch time and nobody was there.

Finally after waiting 45 minutes, I asked if I could pay with a check?
Sure said the manager, but you need ID and a MAJOR CREDIT CARD.
I asked if the Sears card qualified?  Yep!   The check transaction took all of a minute.
I haven't charged anything on the Sears card since!

Story two.   This spring.  Took the HDTV coupon to Sears to by an HDTV converter, on-sale.   But the computer wouldn't handle both the sale coupon and the FCC coupon.   So the clerk issued me a $40 gift card in exchange for the FCC coupon, then I paid for the HDTV converter with the sears coupon and the gift card.   Duh.

TABs story is a perfect example of why Sears is in such serious financial trouble. They're going down boys. All hands abandon ship.

Stupid is as stupid does. They are getting what they deserve. When you don't pay attention to those that you serve you are bound to go under. NOTE to BHO!!! >:(

Sears has been in financial trouble for a long time. It got very serious back in 2000. Here is an article from Nov. of 2008:

ATLANTA, Nov 25 (Reuters) - Shares of Sears Holdings Corp (SHLD.O), down about 65 percent in the past two months, may have further to fall if the weak U.S. economy further dampens sales at its Kmart and Sears, Roebuck stores.

The retailer, controlled by hedge fund manager Edward Lampert, is expected to report a third-quarter loss of 44 cents a share on Dec. 2, compared with a profit of 1 cent a share a year earlier, according to Reuters Estimates.

Some analysts expect the losses to keep piling on for the department store and discount retailer even after the holiday shopping season, which is expected to be one of the worst in years.

Deteriorating results, coupled with a global financial crisis, could hurt Sears' access to much-needed cash, analysts said.

Sears Holdings said in a statement that it has been prudent with capital and that it is working to improve its business. It said a $4 billion credit facility provides about $1 billion in available credit, even at peak borrowing levels, and that it expects to completely repay borrowings under the facility in December.

"Sears Holdings has consistently maintained a strong capital structure with more than adequate liquidity," the company said in its statement.

But Sean Egan, managing director of Egan-Jones Ratings, an independent credit ratings firm, said not only is Sears poised to lose additional sales as consumers spend less and shop at rivals like Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) for basic goods, but a contracting economy makes the company less of a real estate play.

Hedge fund manager Lampert gained favor before the 2005 merger of Kmart and Sears for making Kmart shareholders rich by selling off real estate.

"There will be trouble, a lot of trouble for Sears going forward," Egan said. "The issue is whether or not management recognizes the true state of affairs and takes actions to protect the company and its stakeholders."

Egan said the retailer's best hope for surviving tougher times could lie in merging with another company as the weak economy limits what can be done to turn around results.

Another Sears story. My stepdad was an attorney who handled a lot of bankruptcy cases. The deal is if you declare chapter 7, you have to put a notice in the paper giving creditors notice of the hearing, so they can show up and make their case to the judge. Visa was never there. Sears, on the other hand, always sent a lawyer, even if it was or a few hundred bucks (less than half of their hourly rate). Common snse didn't seem to factor in to it. Rules is rules, and we follow the rules. Common sense be dammned.

I just put a laminate floor in my house. When I took the dishwasher out of the kitchen to lay the floor, we discovered that the motor had a slow leak in it. My wife informed me that WE would not be puting a leaky dishwasher on her new floor so I had to tap into my firearms fund to get a new dishwasher.

My Dad is semi retired and works at a Sears Hardware part time. He told me that if I bought from Sears, I could use his employee discount for a new appliance. I went ahead and did that because I thought I'd be able to get an upgrade from the dishwasher I was going to get a Loews.

I couldn't really tell a difference in the two models, but my wife knew all about it, so I figured it would be better if I just shut the hell up and do as I was told. It came in about two weeks after I finished the floor, so time wise, everything was working out.

The problems started coming when I noticed that I was going to have to buy extras to install it. The water feed line (I was going to replace it anyway), the drain line, and the electrical connection. I was able to get the feed line and drain hose, no problem, but the sales guy told me I'd have to get an electrician to hardwire the dishwasher in. I told him that the dishwashers plugged in to a switched elec outlet below the sink and I needed the plug kit connection for the dishwasher. An aurgument ensued. He knew more than I did, even though I was in new home construction for 20 years and he was a clerk at Sears. I ended up going to Ace Hardware across the street and getting everything I needed for the install, with no aurguments.

The only reason I went there was for Family, but I won't ever again. I just hope I don't need service for the dishwasher.

Dishwashers never come with a fill hose or power connection, just the drain hose. Some places will give you the connections when you buy from them or if you had the place you bought it from install it for you, they should include them in the install price.

The power hook up situation ticks off a lot of people. Same if you buy an electric dryer, just a place to wire in a cord. With dishwashers though, there is a chance it could be hardwired in, so they don't include anything. Not even wire nuts anymore.

Still HATE Sears though.
