Back when Television News Reporters were just that.
He set the standard the Keith Olbermann, and Chris Matthews, and many others have forgotten.
He covered the best and worst times of this country, including the 40th Anniversary of our "putting a man on the moon".
Maybe some of the state run media will remember a thing called character.
I know Cronkite was a Democrat, but he left it out of his broadcasts. Because that was his job.
After retiring, sure he put his .02 cents in, but in the day, he was the one to watch.
"That's The Way It Is"
Walter Cronkite.
RIP

Thank God. He was the first talking head to make his opinion the news. Don't believe me? See Tet offensive!

I was going farther back.....but your right..
We only had 3 channels back than from an RCA 19" television. The remote had 1 button,... up or down than mechanically changed the channel.
Than came Sesame Street,.... :P on PBS... it was a good outlet at the time...
With all the B.S. by the talking heads today,... maybe I should go back.....

His on air ad lib during the Tet offensive "My God, I thought we were winning this thing". Was the death knell of America's effort in SE Asia.

Didn't Nixon say that if he lost Cronkite he lost the war?
What would have happened if Edward R Murrow had said "My God, I thought we were winning this thing" during the Battle of the Bulge?

It was Johnson, It's also quoted as "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost middle America" It was essentially true.
He never would have been on the air again,

Good riddance....Let's face it: some of these people have done serious harm to our republic through their "journalism". I sure will not miss Katie Couric, Dan Rather, Keith Olbermann, Bryant Gumble, Barbara Walters, Maureen Dowd, Eleanor Clift, Ron Littlepage (local liberal editorial writer), Tonya Weathersbee (a black racist and local journalist), and many more; the list was becoming too large!

Many of these glorified newsreaders will go up the same trees and light poles as their socialist hero's.

Another dead jackass and the world feels just a little bit cleaner. Heck maybe Kissinger will bite it next!

There's only one thing I miss about Crokite and the CBS Evening News....the America that was when Cronkite was an announcer.
