A 13-year-old British schoolgirl has been arrested after police discovered a sub-machine gun hidden in her wardrobe.

The M16 automatic weapon — which can fire up to 900 rounds a minute at a range of 400m — is believed to belong to her 19-year-old brother, a known gangster, the Daily Mail reports.

Police found the weapon, understood to be a replica, wrapped in plastic.

It is believed her brother smuggled it into the home in Croydon, South London after the family moved there several weeks ago.

Sergeant Daren Birmingham said police raided the home after receiving a tip-off.

"We pieced together the information we had and decided to act immediately in case the firearm was used," he said.

"If you mess around with weapons we will be at your front door and you will come face to face with an armed response unit."

Neighbours were ordered to stay indoors during the raid and said they were shocked at what police found.

" I looked out of my window and saw dozens of police dressed in riot gear with helmets and shields," neighbour Jeanette Kendrick said.

"Some of them were carrying automatic weapons and they had five or six Alsatian dogs with them."

A 19-year-old male was also arrested and is being questioned by police.

The M16 automatic machine gun has been used in the US military for many years.

It featured in Hollywood action films Platoon and Predator.

If I am not mistaken a replica cannot fire live rounds. So why put in a line in the story that it can and why such a big fuss? Its only as deadly as a toy gun  or a Tickle Me Pamela

Real M-16's fire about 600 rounds per minute.
I do not know the cyclic rate of replicas.
This is Brady's shining goal of idiocy.

Thank God and the foresight of NH revolutionary leadership for Article 10 of our State Constitution. They KNEW the mob would elect idiots.

I just think something has been lost in translation here ::)

I dont think it is a toy or non firing replica..... I think the ignorant Brit is just trying to say that it is a civilian version semi auto AR.

This is my fav part:

Exit Question: How on earth could this possibly have happened in the gun free utopia that is Britain? ::)

NO, REPLICA = NON FIRING = TOY, mock up, FAKE gun.
The Great "British Empire" has devolved into a Limey welfare state.

media + firearms= wrong information

I have found that when it comes to "news" stories involving firearms the media usually gets it wrong.
They have no basic knowledge of firearms or firearms law on which to draw when they write the story, and frequently it becomes a "story" of misinformation.  I also believe that they frequently hype the misinformation to push their anti agenda.  Why else would Dan Rather call an M-1 carbine an AK-47 which I saw him do on a "newscast".  He knows the differance having cut his teeth reporting in Viet Nam where both were used.

I saw a media report once where they referred to a Hi-point carbine as a machine gun!

How about the kid that got busted for having "an arsenal" including "automatic weapons" and on the news video the red muzzles of the AirSoft guns were clearly visible

No wonder the lamestream media is so f***king happy.   ;D

One question, though.  What the hell does the cyclical rate and range have to do with one another?

which can fire up to 900 rounds a minute at a range of 400m

I mean, hell, if it can fire X number of rounds per minute at 400 m, can't it fire the same number of rounds per minute when you're standing right beside it?   ;D

First it's a sub-machine gun then it's a M16 automatic weapon, automatic machine gun, and asssault rifle then it's a replica.

Well, WTF is it?  >:(

They don't know, I don't know,...it's just some form of "gun" thingy, real or fake makes no difference.....to the Brits.

Maybe they'll go back to the mace, and long bow...

Or Did they ban the long bow, long ago???   :)

I'll be here all week,

The nachos are great in the corner.

Ignorance is bliss ::)

I wish it was that simple sometimes.  The mind set that guns are evil has clouded the thought process to the point that the ignorance of firearms is the foregone planned conclussion of the media's blissfulness.

$#it that just sounded like a politician talking, WTF did I just say anyway.

I can't beleive how stupid you are. Everyone knows that if it can fire 900rds/min at 400m then it can fire 1800rds/min at 200m OR 3600rds/min at 100m.

DUH!!!!!
