Blackwolfe and I discovered that we lived near each other and met at the range today. Here's photo-documented proof that forum members do more than just buy guns, talk about guns, take pictures of guns, take guns out of the safe and fondle them and post pictures on the internet. Occasionally we actually shoot them.
Here's blackwolfe shooting his Tactical Solutions upper on a Rock River lower. That was a nice little set up...it ran flawlessly as long as we didn't rest the magazine on the bench when shooting it. I also brought my DPMS AR with a Ceiner kit in it so I could sight in my EoTech with that set up...my Black Dog Machine magazines fit and fuctioned with the TacSol set up perfectly...good note to myself for the future.

Blackwolfe wanted to shoot my M1A...here's a pic. This is a Springfield Armory M1A Loaded...it has been absolutely flawless and can shoot sub-MOA with 168 gr match ammo. I've run it through and Appleseed course and it made me look good. Unfortunately, something was going on in the gas system today where it wouldn't cycle with any ammo...147 gr ball from Portugal or Serbia and my match loads.
I fretted about this endlessly and had horible visions of a frozen, corroded gas system from bad corrosive surplus ammo. As soon as I got home I tore the gas system open and nothing looked amiss...the piston freely moved and other than a little carbon, the system looked good. Then I looked through the disassembly manual http://www.surplusrifle.com/m14m1a/rifledisassembly/index.asp and lo and behold...the gas spindle was turned to GRENADE setting...oops. Oh, well...at least he looks good shooting it, even if it was a bolt action rifle.

Next up were my FALs...the DSA StG58A and the DSA SA58 Para. The Prvi Partisan ammo didn't eject very vigorously (a couple of feet) but the Portuguese threw the brass a good 25-30 feet. May need to turn down the gas a bit on that stuff.

Finally my new MSAR StG556-E4. Here's blackwolfe and I shooting. I now have 100 rounds through the rifle...it feeds and ejects perfectly but doesn't lock back on any magazine...either the factory ones or stock AR mags. I turned the gas to the high setting this time to see if that would help...no joy. Looks like I need to give MSAR a call.

All in all, a good day...then again, any day at the range is better than almost any alternative. Sadly, records of the targets we shot we lost in a bizarre gardening accident so we'll never see how we shot...
Also, I was wondering why my fat butt looks pointy...apparently my CCW prints when I shoot rifles...note to self.

Love the pics and great descriptions for each. Nicely done.
Pretty scenery too. Wish it was that green around here. If I tried to shoot at a place that looks like that, they would throw me off the golf course once the SWAT team showed up. ;D

Who are those ugly bastards!?!? ;D

Trying to get a meeting up with the South Florida DRTV members, Obiwan and FQ, let's go... Curries is in the Northern fringe.....
Great pics and post.

Yes, but your socks make the outfit...It all blends with earth tones and makes you look tacticool.... ;D

Thanks for the porn dudes! Looks and sounds like a good time was had.

Really, you're checkin out his ass and think you can get other forum members to go to the range with you?
Don't do it guys, it's a trap. ;D
It is nice to see that we can all get along. ;)

The green stuff is called grass! Not the kind you smoke, the kind that you mow. We get a lot of the annoying stuff up here in the North! Mow, it grows back.....mow again, it grows back......!

Wonder if we can use it to eliminate PETA members?

Thanks again KPR for sharing the guns and ammo. KPR is a real standup guy.
I hadn't ever shot an M1A, FAL, or an MSAR Aug before. I really enjoyed the M1A the best even if it did function like a bolt action today. The FAL was a close second. The FAL para will beat the shoulder a bit but was fun. Have never shot a bull pup design either like the MSAR and that will take a little getting use to. lI hope KPR can get the bolt hold open problem taken care of.
I'm not much of a rifle shooter and haven't shot in a long time. I think any of these fine rifle will shoot far better than I do. I'm right handed and left eye dominate so I'm sure that hinders me some. I didn't try it today, but I have tried shooting lefty but the results weren't good. All in all I am happy with the way I shot and the rifles grouped well.
My TacSol upper on the RRA lower was fun. I hadn't ever had it out before today. I threw a cheap Comand Arms removeable carry handle sight on it because that is all I have for it. The sight was good for elevation and needed a little adjustment to the left for windage. Ran about 80 rounds through it and I think KPR ran about another 40-50 through it. I tried shooting it from the rest as I wanted to see what it could do. With the exception of a couple of fliers I probaby was around an inch and half or so which is very good for me. This was with bulk Federal hollow points from Wallyworld. I'm sure a better shooter and better ammo would be well under an inch. It didn't like it when the magazine rested on the table as it didnt like to go all the way back into battery. Get the magazine off the table and it ran fine. I highly recommend getting one of these for cheap simulated AR shooting.
The M1A set to gernade wasn't the only mistake today. Seeing that KPR turned 44 this last week I grabbed the Redhawk and some ammo and was going to have him shoot that to celebrate his birthday. Well I grabbed the .45 Colt Redhawk by mistake. KPR got a nice look at it and is considering a .45 for his birthday next year. I don't even have any .45 Colt ammo and haven't even found any since I bough it except for the $1.00 a round stuff. I'm not paying that for plinking ammo so I'll just wait untill some of the cheaper stuff is available.
All in all it was a fun afternoon. Thanks again KPR.
By the way, I'm not really that fat, it's the shirt.

It sounds like you fellas had a great time. Thanks for the pics.
Is it just me, or was there a really large amount of fashion discussion for a bunch of range pics?
Just wonderin'. ;D

You will note that there was no fashion advice from the UPS man :-[

Actually Mike when I first saw KPR I thought about that thread and your UPS attire.

OK, all this talk about clothes is weirdin' me out...so I'm going to bring us back.
blackwolfe...now that I got the M1A squared away, lets set up another range session. This time we can shoot the M1A and maybe compare it to some of its battle rifle comtemporaries like the HK91
(http://i44.tinypic.com/d6ykz.jpg)
Then we can get some more range time with a Garand or two like you said you wanted to do
(http://i41.tinypic.com/121suoh.jpg)
I emailed MSAR on Sunday night and told them about the bolt not locking back on an empty mag...they responded on Monday morning that they're shipping me a new hammer pack...good customer service. So we'll have to see if the AUG is in better shape now
(http://i30.tinypic.com/245c6t2.jpg)
And you said that you didn't have much time on the AR15 platform...maybe we can drag a few of these out
(http://i39.tinypic.com/rs93k7.jpg)
And I'll check into Watervleit to see if they'll let us shoot the .50 BMG

OK, maybe we'll just go shoot this.

I might still have a slingshot around too.
KPR it'd be great to get together again. I'll bring the Mini-14 as you said you wanted to try one. And maybe this time I can bring the correct ammo and revolver combination.
Might have a gernade or two around if the gas system on the M1A is still set to gernade. I think I stored them with the bazooka, at least that's where they were the last time I checked.

kilo...looks like a hip flask to me!
FWIW
Richard
PS: For after the shootin's done!

I wish ammo was as cheap as the BB's!!! We'd all be plinking all day long.
