I've been an idiot. As I've grown older, I have grown, ahem, wider and have graduated to "loose" fit jeans. Then I started CCing and simply upsized the same style pants to account for IWB. I was looking like some rapper gangster with pants so baggy. Definitely didn't look right.
Finally realized that if I go back to the more fitted jeans they fit about right when the waist is sized for IWB!
You got any other hints/tricks for CC clothing?

Long tailed shirts...especially in front! ;D

I'm 62 and had to go on a diet and lost about 95 pounds, now everything I have is baggy. I could almost fit a Barrett 50 in my vest!

As much as I hate to revisit the "tactical pants" issue it is a worthwhile one as new folks need the help. First, you dont say where you live or what you do. This is important as it sets out the parameters of what you can work with. Here in Fl., the weather is hot. Thats bad new. The good news is that the dress code is casual enough that most times you can get by with a solid color Hawain style shirt. (may they never go out of style). Likewise, we all pray that pleated pants remain in fashion. Even with my G26 I can fit it in a pocket of my dockers if I add a bandana folded to cover printing and a wallet and cell in my left pocket so I look balanced. I've never carried an ankle rig as I figure that by the time I get the gun out I'll be dead ten times. Before Friscos illness I was asking him about an idea for a custom IWB I had. The idea is this. A long clip that would let the pstol be mounted low beneath the waist band with a rigid holster. Then a cell phone holster on the outside of the clip so it would be discreet. Don't know if this would work, but if so, it would let you carry with jeans and a tucked in shirt.

First.....FQ...pleated pants have never, will never and would never be "IN STYLE" in my house. I don't own anything but flat front khakis, period..... ;D ;D Pleats and cuffs just are silly looking! I don't care how big you are!
Second....I agree on the "Shop Shirt" or Hawaiian style as long as you don't look like Don Hoe or something (Sonny Crocket style don't cut it either).......I wear Commander 1911 under a t-shirt or a pocket holster with a snubbie......I always buy long shirts anyway.
I don't think carrying a gun is very comfortable but considering the alternative, I'll suffer a bit! A good belt and holster rig for a gun you trust will go a long way...

Eotac makes a nice line of carry apparel. Polos, jeans, khakis, shorts, Mexican wedding shirt, etc. I buy from Rogue Elite online. No tax on clothing in PA so even though I'm in the same state as they are, no tax.
Pants have two sections of elastic on the sides, so buy to your proper waist size. The elastic let's you carry IWB no problems.

I pocket carry a GLOCK 26. For the last few years I've been wearing these jeans at home and at work.
jeans huge front pocket (I remove the hammer loop) I took Rob Pincus' Combat Focus Shooting class in these and did very well drawing from the pocket (everyone else had a gun on the hip and only 2 used a cover garment)

They allowed jeans at work if you gave to a charity. We stopped doing this in July. So I'm looking for something other than my Dockers (which due to the pocket design I can't smoothly draw my gun). I'm looking at this pant. Watch the video.

I find that a tuckable IWB holster like my MTAC make clothing choice easy. Simply buy 2" larger waiste bands. I have found that it doesnt really increase the bagginess of the legs all that much. As a matter of fact, I found out later that my regular size pants really werent that much tighter with teh gun in place.

Pocket carry, pocket carry, pocket carry. A great solution for "Big Boys" in any weather.
I carry my Walther PPS 9mm in a Done Hume pocket holster in my front pocket, in plain old Wrangler jeans or in any style of shorts with a front pocket. I don't even know that it's there. I carry an extra 8 round mag in my other pocket.
When I am wearing large shirts, untucked, or cover garments, I can step up to an assortment of bigger/badder guns, but the Walther works in the front pocket.
You can get the PPS in .40 S&W.

Although I like a nice IWB holster most of the time, I have found a belly band rig, worn low (around the hips), works for total concealment, whether tucked, untucked or shirtless. A little practice now and then, and I can draw very quickly with this setup.

Check out this site. There was a thread awhile back on this. Works with shorts and t-shirts.

If you carry IWB, the pant fit is the most important thing. Upsizing one size will work with most guns, and once the holster is properly attached you can hide it very easily with an untucked shirt. Also, select shirts designed to be worn untucked. An untucked dress shirt draws more attention than a bold colored straight hemmed shirt.
I carry a 5" 1911 IWB, and I can hide it with t-shirts. The better the quality the less printing, but outside of friends that know I carry and one touchy waitress that I discussed earlier I am unaware of anyone knowing what I had.
For dress slacks I like my Uncle Mikes IWB clipped on the medial shank of my weak side boot. In this holster I carry my little J frame. The key is that the pant legs must be loose enough to raise in a hurry for the access ... blue jeans won't work, but my dress slacks and suits are perfect for this.

Charlie Parrot is a good guy, 10% off if you mention you heard his ad on Tom Gresham's Gun Talk.
I have not heard the ads in a while so I don't know if he is still in Business he's about 75 and made all the holsters himself.

i have always loved shoulder holsters, make drawing while in the car a piece of cake, and you have to drink a LOT of beer to put much fat on your shoulders :D

We're doing an extensive concealed carry series of segments for the 2nd season of THE BEST DEFENSE. It's actually a relatively complex subject, and we want to do a good job with it.

That is AWESOME!
Between the 3 of you there is a pretty good cross section of male body types. ;)
Please cover female ccw as well.

Looking forward to it Michael. Thanks.

I've not heard anyone mention hockey sweaters (jerseys). They're long enough to cover a holster, and they're normally worn not tucked in, and they're loose fitting. Problems might be the flexibility of the material, and casualness of the style.
thoughts?

hockey sweaters (jerseys).
You just got to hope no dumbass gangbangers have adopted the jersey for their set but you are right on the money about them being big enough to conceal.
-
I agree that hockey jerseys should be good, just not in style here.
Here you would have to wear a football jersey.

I finally got a pair or two of the Tru-Spec 24-7 pant. They meet my need for pocket carry and allow for a smooth draw. I did however need to modify my drawstroke as the pocket does not allow a straight up pull like the jeans mentioned above. My other tac pants 5.11 and Popper do not allow a smooth enough draw (for me). I've ask the manufacture of the Tru-Spec to make the pocket opening wider but they say no thanks (currently 6.5 inches). Another nice thing about the pant is a knife pocket on each side.
These guys sell the pant a couple dollars lesss. http://www.gmstactical.com/

After I wore out my 511's, I tried some LA Police gear house brand trousers, covert operator I believe they call them, I actually like them better. Comfortable, look good, lots of pockets, great access and draw ability in the front pockets. the cargo pockets have an inner pocket for separate magazine storage. Price point 20 bucks.
I tried some Sig Tac pants, nice but hard to believe, the front pockets are too big, yes you can put a large pistol in there, but the opening is so big, someone can actually look into your pocket and see whats there.
