That's the deal being offered by Eastside Harley-Davidson. That's the deal being offered by Eastside Harley-Davidson. Customers who buy a Big Twin Harley will get a voucher to Wade's Eastside Guns good for up to $500 in firearm, according to the shop's ad.
The motorcycle shop posted a tongue-in-cheek video clip on its Web site to advertise what it's called "the best promotion of the year."
"Our government guarantees certain rights, one of which is the right to bear arms. Eastside Harley-Davidson is adding to that list the right to a new Harley," the ad says.
The offer has triggered some harsh criticism from some anti-gun activists.
"We just don't need more guns on the street. The fact of the matter is, when you have more guns, you're going to have more gun violence," said Ralph Fascitelli of Washington Ceasefire. "I think it's the height of corporate irresponsibility. I think it's somebody who's looking to get publicity and I think there can be negative ramifications."
But Jim Pelletier of Eastside Harley-Davidson doesn't see what the fuss is all about.
"We're not just handing somebody a gun," he said. "They still have to wait three days. They still have to go through the background checks."
The ad states the offer runs through the end of July, but on Saturday a salesman at the shop said the offer has been extended indefinitely.
