Ah, the news you've all been waiting to hear!
SHOOTING GALLERY and COWBOYS will be back with new shows on The Outdoor Channel in 2008, with me producing.
Even more importantly, the new management of The Outdoor Channel and I are on exactly the same page...we're going to be taking the two most popular shooting shows in HISTORY up to the next level! Get ready, 'cause it's gonna rock!
More later, but I wanted to get this announcement out ASAP....

CONGRATS!!!
I can't imagine what those discussions / negotiations are like. Not knowing if and what and when must be nerve wracking!
Glad it went well for you (and as an extension for us).

Good news. I'm glad to see the people at the Outdoor Channel give shooters good shows. ;D 8) ;D ;D

Thiis is great news !!! Shooting Gallery and Cowboys are weekly rituals for me. It's great to see the best shooting shows and the best host ;Dcarried on for another year.
-
OH THANK GOODNESS!!!! :) :)
I honestly was a little worried. There aren't enough strictly shooting shows on TV as it is (even though Cowboys does occasionaly drift off into the life style which is fine with me).

Sounds great Michael - any chance of running in an intermittent special or two during the wait?

Even better news is that DOWN RANGE will continue on its merry way! I created DOWN RANGE partly out of my frustration wth delivering informatio in a broadcast format. Television time and production is stunningly expensive...you find yourself saying things like, "Heck, it's only a measly half-mil" and actually mean it. We broke new ground with SHOOTNG GALLERY and COWBOYS. I insisted from the very beginning that I wanted a different kind of show, one that devoted all its "editorial" time to a single subject. That decision was based on my own reactions to what I think of as "attention deficit disorder television," the standard magazine-style firearms show. It used to drive me crazy to watch a show like AMERICAN SHOOTER, where just when something got interesting, it disappeared.
Magazine television is structured the way it is not because the viewers want it that way, but because it is perceived to be easier to sell "pieces" of shows than a whole show. In addition, the multiple pieces allow the opportunity for multiple product placements and endorsements...of course, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. From the ground up, SG and COWBOYS strived for credibility, and advertisers have flocked to us because of that simple reason. If Tequila or I tell you we use it, we use it. Our shows are based on the viewers, not the bottom line. I think of it as NO B-S TELEVISION, and it is what we do! I love money as much as the next guy — heck, maybe more! — but I believe that the viewers, you guys, come first.
Let me give you a quick example...I've been working with an industry visionary, Larry Potterfield of MIDWAY USA, for more than a year on the best way to have Midway join SG & COWBOYS great list of sponsors...CRIMSON TRACE, RUGER, SIGARMS, MAGNUM BOOTS, etc. Rather than a commercial, after much back-and-forth we decided on a series of "vignettes" hopefully giving the viewer a little more information as well as a big plug for MIDWAY...where much of our disposable income goes anyway! I worked with Larry on the subjects of the vignettes and their presentation, and I'm pretty proud of what we came up with and how he's been able to put them together. You start seeing them next season.
DOWN RANGE is a way to get beyond the 24-minute pallet I have with broadcast television, and give you more TAKE-HOME information. I've wanted to do a continuing series on CCW for a long time, and now we're underway. I'm looking forward to doing the downloadable audio series on my talk, GUNFIGHTER LOGIC, and offering you guys an inexpensive e-book version of an updated TRAIL SAFE. Yeah, I'll make money, but I'll make it doing something I want to do, and that I believe has value for you.
Next week, we've got additional CCW video courtesy of Ralph Mroz, one of the best and most cutting-edge law enforcement instructors out there. I've had a lot of demand for more point-shooting technique, so when my friend and colleague LEO instructor Dave Arnold told me how pleased he was with D.R. Middlebrooks' shooting classes, I went to D.R. and asked him whether he'd produce four 5-minute videos on his training techniques for DOWN RANGE, and that's in the works. You'll also be happy to know that in April I'll be going to GUNSITE to film a series of "GUNSITE TIPS" that you'll only be able to see on DOWN RANGE. As we progress into the summer, I've got top competition shooters lined up for tips, as well as more controversial interviews.
And, BTW, I have meetings in New York City next week that may have a profound effect on DOWN RANGE...can't tell you more than that, but I'll keep you informed!
In the meantime, I'm drafting plans for a SHOOTING GALLERY and COWBOY "CLASSICS," so you won't be stuck with just plain-vanilla "reruns" but rather revised shows where I can sneak in some new update information, etc. I'm also working on the "concepts" lists for the next season of original programming...and it will be spectacular...because we have the access and the support that other shows can only dream about!
Stay tuned, both to The Outdoor Channel and to DOWN RANGE...there are still LOTS of paradigms for me to break!

PS: To the people who spent all last week telling everyone on the industry who'd listen that Michael Bane was, and I quote, "dead...Dead...DEAD!"...let me say that rumors of my death have been great exaggerated...

;D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael, I think this calls for a nice bottle of Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame don't you think?
-
Good News Michael, I look forward to Shooting Gallery being back, as someone fairly new to shooting it has been a great resource.
-
Break a leg!!
I like this web site and being able to talk to the audience and producers of the show. I learn a lot about hand guns, history and especially being safe with a gun. I am a damn good shot now and plan to stay that way.
-
Michael,
I have ZERO problem with you making money. We all gots to have it! I love your programs and I believe that you DO use and support what you are saying. That is important to me.
In your CCW series you pointed out that you have been carrying the little COLT for 10 to 15 years BUT you also pointed out some downside to that weapon. EXCELLENT!! It is what I expect. Tell me the ups and downs. I expect it to be a good product and a great company if you are talking about it but I want the ups and perceived downs.
Keep it up, we will support you.
Hazcat.

It's good to hear my friend D.R. is becoming apart of Down Range. I've taken a class from D.R. you won't believe what he can do with a gun with no sights!

I would hope so considering I have been so tired of the lame a$$ TV I have been seeing lately. I am stuck in the land of perpetual night and I never get to see anything new or cool like you guys do! Shows like SG, DRTV, and Cowboys are the only way I get to experience the rest of the shooting world! If it wasn't for Cable I would never have any fun! Well except for my small IDPA-USPSA/IPSC club!

OMG - You're making DOWNRANGE - THE MOVIE. Of course, I will skip the theatrical release and just wait for the Director's Cut on HD-DVD. ;)
-
This is great news!
-
Well, I would have never believed that you were dead Michael, your to darn good....

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!
A lot of the MAGAZINE type shows are pretty much a series of product plugs and NO depth.
Sure the sponsers put the money on the table but I would love to see a little honest CONs to balance the PROs about a product.
Michael, One of the shows I really enjoyed was with a gentleman showing the performance of different loads out of his revolvers into wet newspapers, showing the plain and simple dynamics of bullet performance. Personally I like the nuts and bolts of how guns work and perform.
One form of depth that is interesting (to me a least) is not only showing us how to use the particular firearm but that most of the stages of the competitions could be done with a respectable amount of expertise using a basic firearm. Not all of use can or really want to spend the money needed to build an all out Race gun but at the same time it is nice to learn WHICH details MAKE the Race gun necessary for the top shooters to keep their edge in competition.
The COWBOYS shows that showcase a certain individual and his taste in firearms with details of his or her collection also are on top of my list of favorites. A little History is ALWAYS good!
Enough Rambling. CONGRATULATIONS from a Fan.

Great News Michael!
Is OC going to pony up for the 80 Second Challenge this year?

That's great to hear. Life without SG would not be the same. ;D
