Title: Bushnell Holosight
Post by: gunman42782 on October 28, 2007, 11:30:24 PM
Have any of you guys used one of these? If so, how do you like it? How does it compare to a Eotech? I am thinking of buying one for my AR, and would like opinions, good and bad. Thanks.

I have one.  I do not believe that it is as rugged as the EOTech as it doesn't have the outer housing cover.  I would also like the better buttons as the one I have has the membrane ones instead of the real ones.  The model I have uses the N batteries, which is ok.  I bought a bunch bulk and stored them in the freezer.

So far it has held up to all that we have dished out to it.  I really like the circle with the 1 MOA dot rather than just a dot.  Personal thing.

I just bought one and have just started to use it on my black rifle. I am impressed at how my groups on the AR tightend right up at 100 yards. I see the 1 mil dot as a 3 dot triangle that covers more than a mil. That could be just me.

Mine is an N battery job as well. Which is fine by me as I have other things that use N batteries. The bad news on N batteries is that the Commissary and PX don't always have them available. The good news is that they do sell them. So, stock up when they have them. I don't Know where to buy N batteries in bulk. More good news is that the N batteries take up less space and weigh less. What you give up to the AAA battery jobs is the length of time the batteries are good for and the cost of the batteries. But for me the space on the rail, the lighter weight, and lower cost of the N sights win out. You can buy a lot of N batteries for the difference in price.

One last point. I went to the EOtech web site. That is were I found out about the Busnell Holosight. So, I speculate they are the same basic systems.

Here... http://www.batterywarehousedirect.com/2.html?m5:cat=%2FN%2FENERGIZER (http://www.batterywarehousedirect.com/2.html?m5:cat=%2FN%2FENERGIZER)  I bought a pack of 48 and that works out to about 60 cents each.

My local arms merchant said that the EOTech and Bushnell had the same guts in them....but that the EOTech (which I purchased) had the steel shroud to "armor" the sight.  I'm pretty rough on equipment, so I went with the EOTech.  Side by side, I think my arms merchant is right.

Just placed an order for one of these from Sportsman's Guide for $179 (with my Buyer's Club discount. It is $199 without the discount.) This is almost $75 cheaper than I have seen this item anywhere else. I am gonna put it on my AR and will let you guys know how I like or dislike it when I get it.

Can the Bushnell Holosight be used out to 300 meters?

Don, yes you can use it out to 300 meters.  I use mine out there all the time.  With a 1MOA center dot, it really doesn't cover much at that range.

I've got a Bushnell mounted on a Wilkinson Arms 9mm carbine. Looks cool but the last time I shot I noticed that the display would go out ???. Mine is the AA battery type and the batteries were new. Anybody experience the same thing? Suggestions? Thanks, Gary

Yup....you should try a small grill sized propane tank at 300 yards with incendiary ammo from an EOTech outfitted poodle shooter.  Only, of course, if that ammo is legal in your state.  A definite upside to living in Oklahoma.

Morning Gunman and all. I too jumped on the Sportsmans Guide deal, although I didn't get that price. I have an AR also but am going to try it on a Kel-Tec carbine first. Hope I'm as happy as everyone else with one. Thanks for the heads-up on the deal.

Not yet, Don, it is deer season here and I have had other guns in the woods besides my AR!  I will try real hard this week to get it sighted in and let you guys know how I like it.

Well, I took her shooting yesterday, and I really like the Holosight.  I had no problems keeping everything on target once I had it sighted in.  One hundred yards was the max I could shoot at, but with an M4 that is about right anyway.  With it sighted in at 100 it shot high up close and personal.  No problems with the Holosight at all, but did have a problem with my BUIS I put on.  Actually, the problem must have been the gas block was crooked, as I had to crank the rear sight all the way left because the bullets were hitting so far right they were almost off the paper!  I finally moved my gas block over some and got the rear sight where it is more centered and now everything is just hunky dory.  This is a railed gas block and is held on by screws.  Think I should lock-tite the screws?  I would hate for the dang thing to come loose when I might actually need the gun!

Up close and personal ... the barrel/sight offset's the issue there. Just remember that you're 2.5-3 inches high and all will be well. Iron sights will have the same offset.

I have the low profile version of the holosight on my M4-gery. I find that with the collapsible stock, my cheek weld is low enough that the sight is more comfortable for me than the regular Holosight.

My only beef is that there isn't a choice of reticle.

Got mine. Took it to the indoor range (25 yds) on my Bushmaster Patrol Carbine with .22lr conversion. I also had another AR from my pre-retirement agency, fitted with the Eotec, NV compatible, high end, AA battery combat site. It sure looked like the same display to me. Best purchase of the year, and thanks for the lead on the great deal. Next stop, outdoors and back to 5.56. Mac.
