Anyone who likes or plays any type of music knows the name Les Paul. I've played guitar for over 25 years, the standard for any young guitarist was having a Gibson Les Paul. He was the foundation that took multi track recording, the concept of reverb and inventing one of the finest guitars as well as, other innovations, make him a legend in the music world.
Mine is a Les Paul Standard, and it is like your favorite firearm. There is a difference. Yes, my strings are on the "wrong" side as I am left handed....
I'm sure JayBeth has some thoughts.

As much as this forum's members love music, I thought Les Paul's passing deserved acknowledgment.
Rest In Peace Les Paul, you have changed the sound of music forever, and we thank you.

Truly a legend.....I'm sure he and Leo Fender are having a cold one today!
psssstt.....TW......your guitar is upside backwards or sumpin! And is that a Flyin Vee peeking around the corner?

Not a fan of the 200# log guitar, but the legend will be missed. RIP man...

To Les & Leo, the Stradivarius's of the 20th Century.

Indeed a legend and one of the great guitar players.... RIP

Make you go Hmmmm,....when skinny people like Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Peter Frampton, and countless others, had the energy and spirit to get on stage and play for hours with the "somewhat heavy" Les Paul...
Kinda like a full size 1911, you get used to carrying it,...

I guess I just like the bright punchy tones of my lighter ESP. Les Pauls have their place, but that havy wood makes for heavy tone. If I could nail Slash's tones I would switch to les Pauls...

When I win the Powerball, I'll get a PRS electric, and a Guild 12 string.
I'm torn between "another" guitar, and "another" Firearm,..... ::)

We have truly lost a legend and an innovater. He was one of a kind.
R.I.P. Les Paul.

I see a lot of..."I'm gonna buy, gonna get"...
Sometimes, innovation ROCKS... >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2mh7zGfFRM

Anybody who has ever played in any kind of rock & roll band was influenced by Les, whether they knew it or not. He changed forever the way popular music is played & recorded, may he rest in peace.

I hear you. Right now I am torn between buying a New Mesa Dual Rectifier Combo or a 642 and a 1911.

Les Paul...hmmm...I don't own one now but I HAVE owned about 6 over the years. I kept trying them, not getting exactly what I was looking for, and kept selling them off to go back to the Fenders.
Les had so many impressive careers.
He was an inventor, and developed the prototype for one of the top three most popular electric guitars ever.
He was an engineer. Les Paul developed a good bit of the technology for multi-track recording.
He was a recording artist. He and Mary made countless popular recordings that set the bar for the industry.
He was a MONSTER guitar player. When he had his accident and they asked him how to set his useless elbow, he had them set it bent so he could still pick. Even with that affliction he could play rings around most people.
He was a leader. Hundreds of guitar players and industry powers sought him out.
He lasted a long time...94. Up until about a year ago my friend George Mesterhazy, who plays piano on our last cd, was traveling to NYC every monday night to play in Les Pauls band.
Les Paul was an tireless engine of talent and creativity. In some ways you can't really mourn him because he accomplished more in his long life than any four people. Great guy, great talent. RIP

That was a hell of a tribute Jay....thanks for sharing!

Thanks jay, I knew you would be able to put words and wisdom to a man who influenced all of us who just want to play guitar.
Can't blame you for the Fenders, after seeing Derek and the Dominos, I had to have one...
Thanks again Jay.
