For nearly one-out-of-three voters (32%), Jimmy Carter is the living ex-president who has done the best job since leaving the White House, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
Carter, who served in the White House from 1977 to 1981, ranks first among the four surviving presidents. George W. Bush, who has only been out of office seven months, comes in last with nine percent (9%) support.
Bill Clinton, president from 1993 to 2001, made headlines again last week when he successfully brought two imprisoned U.S. women reporters home from North Korea. He is viewed by 29% as the ex-president who has performed best since stepping down as chief executive.
Twenty-two percent (22%) say that of George H.W. Bush, who was Ronald Reagan’s vice president and then went on to serve in the White House from 1989 to 1993.
Democrats are much more supportive of the presidents from their party than Republicans are, although Clinton is the favorite of Democratic voters over Carter by a 48% to 41% margin. The two GOP presidents get single-digit support.
Among Republicans, 35% rate the first President Bush as best, while 20% feel that way about his son. But 22% like Carter best and 13% favor Clinton.
Voters not affiliated with either party rank the ex-presidents as follows: Carter (33%), George H.W. Bush (28%), Clinton (21%) and George W. Bush (4%).
Carter, who had a troubled presidency but won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, was also the most popular of the living ex-presidents when Americans where asked in July 2007 to rate the nation’s chief executives since World War II.
To "unspin this, 2/3 of Americans think "Jimma" was an asshole.

He has spent his days building houses for the poor and such. If only he discovered that he was good at that BEFORE running for office........

I would have to agree that Jimma was a far better civilian than he ever was a president!
I'd also agree that Jimma was an asshole and for a really intelligent guy, a bit of a dumbass as well!

And you wonder how BHo got elected?

For those among us who are NOT mysogynist, (ok so I can't spell worth a damn), the GOP DID pick a good candidate. They simply put her in the wrong slot.......2nd instead of 1st on the ballot.

Graduated from Annapolis, ranked very high in his class and was a nuclear physicist. Annaplois cadets are in the top 1/10th of 1% academically comparred to all other college and university entrants each year.
Jimma was a very brilliant dumba$$.
Apparently he continues to have legions of dumba$$ fans. ;D

Yes a very bright guy. Don't think he ever finish his graduate work in Nuclear Technology and Physics though. BS from Annapolis and was doing graduate work before he left the Navy. Went home to raise his goobers!
He did admit that his wife would have made a better President than he did!

I have to agree, of the living ex's he has definitely done the most philanthropy post-presidency.
Unless you count training interns for jobs in the porn industry, then we know who the winner is.
-
I'll give jimma this much, he was hand picked by Hyman Rickover to be a sub Commander.
His still sucked as Commander in Chief.

He has also done the most bashing of America both here and abroad.

Carter is a damned embarrassment. But then, so is Carter 2.0 (BHO).

Even Carter wasn't anywhere near as bad as BHO has been. Scary perspective, isn't it?

That's cuz he was incompetent and mostly ineffective, except at ruining the economy.
bho is a wrecking ball at work and very effective so far. If he is that good at wrecking the economy - and this country - then bho can't be the worst president. And yet he is wrecking the economy - and this country - so that should make him the worst president. Interesting conundrum - not.
bho is the worst and he is just getting started.

This may be an example that some of us are good at being told what to do and how to do it yet fail the grade at free thinking.

In 1976, the democrat party could have put a poodle up as the candidate for president and gotten it elected. The American people were tired of Viet Nam, tired of Nixon and unimpressed with Gerry Ford and generally pissed off much like they're going to be in 2012!
Had I known that Reagan was going to win in 1980, I'd have made the military a career, since the nuclear peanut farmer was my CINC, I decided to hand in my papers!
Lets hope that the GOP can find something resembling a candidate and not another lame duck like McCain. Is Palin that person? I doubt it but she's at least talking the talk and getting her lovely mug out there and making people think!

Good analysis. I think she can best be framed as a current day crier. A good thing.

In the interest of fairness I will give BO credit for one thing, So far he hasn't given away any of our strategic territorial assets.
When the Iranians took the US Embassy, 9 Considered an act of war since the beginnings of structured diplomacy) All us Marines were ready and willing to go kick some Shiite ass. My Cousin, at Ft Bragg at the same time said the Army was in the same mood. jimma talked to them, just like BO wants to talk to them. jimma got told to piss up a rope, what results do you think BO will get.

Yeah, he's just trying to give away the Big Enchilada all at once to the liberal fascists/socialist/communists....he isn't focused on the little stuff like the Peanut Brain was focused on....Peanut Brain didn't have the handlers that are handling BHO and telling him what to say.
Rahm is running the show in the White House. I think Peanut Brain is too anti-semetic to have had that kind of direct control exercised over him.
Which brings up a point about BHO being Mooslim with all the Jewish on his cabinent telling him how high to jump and which way to turn. I'm just saying...you know.
