ND is the ONLY state in the union that does not participate in Wally World's cheap drug program. Chain drugstores are not allowed - we have Walgreen's and WM drugstores but they must be independently owned.

However, we do have a WM in Moorhead, a short ride across the river in MN. I paid half of what I used to pay for co-pay under my work insurance for the same damn drugs! $10 for a 90-day supply.

Keep the damn gummint out of this!

Since I take every single drug for which I have a deficiency, Wallys cheap prices won't save me any money at all.

Been using Publix grocery store pharmacy for the past few years.   My last anti-biotic was $0.00.   That's as in zero.

A little food for thought after this disclaimer, while I wish I was a paid-to-shoot pro I'm a independent pharmacist. With that out of the way answer the following questions.
     (1) When have you EVER seen a Wal-Mart,CVS,etc sponsor a local high school,church league,little league,etc?
     (2) If you are a UMWA member & bitch about out-of-country coal or a UAW member & bitch about Japanese cars or a farmer & bitch about Mexican crops how many tears do you want me to shed for you when you're getting mail-order RXs &/or going to those places? .
     (3) Now that Wal-Mart has closed down most of the small locally owned gun stores how are you going to get your guns & ammo when they cave in to political pressure & stop selling these items? Remember they have already quit selling handguns.
     (4) Is your time of any value at all? Our goal is that the patient NEVER waits more than 15 minutes & most of the time the wait is MUCH less. These stores USE the pharmacy departments as loss-leaders. The idea is for you to HAVE to wait so you will walk around, shop & buy other items.
     (5) With out-of-state or out-of-country corp offices how much tax revenue is your town, county, state or country losing?
     (6) With BHO health care in our future how much faith do you have in ANY of the big corps about ANYTHING? Just like in (3),think about what HAS happened before thinking that it CAN'T happen.
Now that the rant is over & before the replies start ,2 areas of clarification. I'm not a PO business failure. The store has set sales records for the last 3 years running. Finally, being the product of era when schools still taught HISTORY & BUSINESS,even with BHO &
a recession/depression, I don't see a soup line in my future (during the Great Depression the only 2 segments of the economy that showed profits were the alcohol & drug businesses).I AM worried about what the future holds for my country & children & short-sighted
actions aggravate me to no end.

One of the things I like best about this forum, (and I have mentioned it before ) is that no matter what topic is being discussed we have at least one member who has personal experience of it that they are willing to share to inform the rest of us.
wrhall thank you for your input.
I think the reason that most people do not apply the same reasoning to drugs as they do to gun stuff (buy from the local guy ) is because of cost, if I'm a little short this month I don't have to buy a new gun or more ammo. Drugs, most people HAVE to purchase on a regular basis no matter the finances. Cost is why I quit taking my heart meds 5 years ago, Nitro alone was $90 a pop. The only difference is now I can eat grapefruit and go out in the sun with out any "allergic" reaction.

I buy my meds mail order (min 90-day supply). If I should have the need for a 30-day med I will shop Walmart or Kroger (they have $4 meds as well).

Getting my oil changed at Walmart tomorrow.

Tom's right, great post WR. And your point about corporate sponsorship is very well taken. One question though.

My prescriptions would retail for ca. $800 for a 90 day supply. I take it your issue is not with work-based drug plans, but with discount dealers like Medco, CVS/Caremark Wally and the others. Originally, I went with the mail order simply because at that time I could not get 90 days any other way. Never thought about going to the local drugstore since then except in an emergency. So what is the alternative? Can we get 90-day supplies locally now? And for the same co-pay of the plans?

BTW, it took Wally World 20 minutes to fill 5 prescriptions - for a new customer to boot. Another 5 to remedy an issue that came up with one of them. Not a huge time. And again, the ND pharmacists are all little guys, no chains allowed.

Out here in my little town there are NO independent pharmacies.  Of the two in town the one is iin a big box store, and the other is owned by the big hospital in Sioux Falls that owns the little hospital here, as well as all the doctors, the clinic, the medical supply house and everything else to do with healthcare.

if you don't like wal mart then may grocery stores will match the price and some of them are local. Just saying some people need help on drug bills to stay afloat.

I just recently found out that Target is owned by the French.  The owner of a nearby but not local lumber supply company is owned by Europeans.  Practically all of the furniture factories in North Carolina are now closed.  Furniture now mostly comes from China.

Is anything owned by Americans anymore?  Maybe we should all go by Wal-Marts and get their deal on K-Y.  At least when we get #%* it won't hurt so bad.

Delta, had to check on that one, sounded fishy - Target is a US owned corp,, HQ in Minneapolis - formerly Dayton-Hudson. AXA (French company) owns 5% of the stock. Snopes confirms it is US owned.

My former employer, however, is a different story - Bank of the West is owned by the French outfit PNB Paribas.

Thanks for the link.  I stand corrected.  I learned something.

Here is another interesting site.  This is a place that is interesting but can't be taken as the truth.  http://www.ripoffreport.com/

I hear ya on the drug costs.
My wife has a prescription for three pills she has to take the day of (and two days after) her chemo. $330 for three pills.
That hurt until the insurance deductible kicked in.

I don't use Wally world because the service  at ours sucked. They kept screwing up the insurance info and charging full price.
